OK The sound department is not my thing. My girlfriends Accord sounds much clearer and better than the stang. I know the Ohms are different on the Mach system and I could put in a different head unit with a harness from Crutchfield. My question is can I get good sound with just replacing the head unit with the harness? Should I do the speakers too. The Mach system has enough bass and volume for me, just doesn't sound as good as the honda system. I don't want to rewire the whole system or drop subs in or anything.
I guess I'm asking what are some opinions on a good upgrade for an audio noob like me.
Thanks for the replies fellas.

A headunit isn't going make it sound better, it may actually make it sound worse. I'm guessing the accord sounds better because of factory sound deadening and such, your best bet would be to take the money you would have spent on a headunit and put in sound deadening.

wtf is that guy talking about. it only makes it sound worse if you buy a ****ty deck.
a headunit can make a huge difference, id recommend pioneer, alpine, eclipse, and ive heard some of the new clarions are good.

Hmm, how much do know about OEM systems? The advantage of OEM systems is that the vehicle can be designed around/with the system, not the other way around when you buy aftermarket. Some OEM systems, assuming the Mach system does, have some eq tuning built in to help with the horrible sound environment that a vehicle inherently has.

Whats easier, designing a system to put in 100,000 similar vehicles, or designing a system to work in hundreds of different vehicles? Ever wonder why when you replace your speakers you often loose the "midbass" that comes with the OEM system??? Hmm...

Yes, a high end deck CAN increase sq, if it comes with features lacking in the OEM system. IE: multiband eq, time alignment, 24 bit d/a's, etc.

LIKE I SAID, try a sound deadening combo like sound a dampener, blocker and absorber, and your stang may start sounding better than other OEM systems.

Thanks for the advice. I'm not sure sound dampener is the way to go for me. I can put the same CD in both cars, not running, and her honda sounds much clearer. It's like when you rip a CD at a low bitrate and then listen to the original. It's just better.
I think I'll try one of the four headunits from above with the crutchfield adaptor. I'll be sure to come back and let you know how it worked out.
Anyone else switch just the headunit? Better, worse?

hahahahaha....the reason that makes aftermarket decks are better than OEM is because the fact that they have better features. All you can do on an OEM is Fade Balance Bass and Treble...My Eclipse has endless options which changes the sound (for the better) coming from the speakers, where as sound deadening only helps keep the sound (already coming from the speakers) in the car....
