Normal idle for an '04 GT?

Edit - I feel kind of stupid. I went in and looked at my Diablo today and the neutral idle is set to 736. I installed that tune about 6 months ago. Not sure why my mind was playing tricks on me. Probably because my odometer flipped out around that time and I thought there was something with the cluster. Is 736 too high? That's what was installed with the default "87 Performance" tune. What do you guys recommend?

Car looked like it was idling around 745rpms (Diablo real time) which seems abnormal if I recall. It was ran for a few seconds with the air filter and MAF off but it stalled of course. Also ran for a bit with the vacuum hose off. The car is still burning off all the marvel mystery oil that was sucked in through the vacuum on the plenum so we could trace an exhaust leak. Hopefully that stuff burns out soon because it smells like crap and leaves the cars behind me in a good cloud of smoke :eek:

Car also hasn't ran through it's readiness test since the battery was disconnected recently, so it is not throwing any codes besides that. Was throwing a code for the output shaft speed sensor but I cleared that and everything seems to be working fine on that matter (speedo, odo).

While I have your attention, my mufflers are leaking on both ends where they meet the flow tubes, where that c-clamp is. What's the best way to seal that? Some kind of exhaust putty I heard about, or that exhaust wrap?

Stock idle is 565 RPM in D and 656 RPM in N/P for my auto. Your stock manual car should idle at 565 RPM. There are modifiers for ECT that affect cold idle speed so if the car is not at operating temperature, the idle will be a bit high. If you have cams, the idle will need to be set a bit higher than stock.

I'm pretty sure the car was warm when I checked it. Realized this yesterday after pouring all that crap in through the intake haha
 
Took her out for a spin tonight. After about 45 minutes of driving it would still idle at about 700ish. I don't understand what we could have done for this to happen. The throttle body has that adjustment screw on it, and my Diablo I assume can adjust as well, but I don't really want to manually adjust something I don't know the cause of.
 
Since you had the battery disconnected for a while the computer needs to re-learn the proper idle. It should take about 15-20 cold starts to normal operating temperature for it to correct itself. I just went through this after I had the battery disconnected for a few hours to weld in some sub-frame connectors. My car was idling at 1150 for a while and it just slowly corrected itself.

Good to hear that. I'm sure the battery was disconnected while my longtubes were installed but I didn't noticed this until days after. Maybe I just wasn't paying attention to the minor difference. The battery was disconnected again a few days ago so we'll see how it adjusts from here. Thanks for the input.

How do you like the sound of your exhaust? I had the same setup before I swapped to a Magnaflow O/R X, and then the LTs and O/R H. To be honest I think it sounded best with the catted Magnaflow X. Had a real deep clean sound to it.
 
In my canned diablo tune, my car idles at 705 according to the tuner. My car is a stick so I think yours would idle closer to mine rather than in the 5xx's like an auto.

I just don't recall it idling this high before and I have had the Diablo 87 tune installed for almost a year now. I'll see what it drops to after the car runs its OBD readiness and work the issue from there.

Any issues with it idling close to 800?
 
Just be patient. Don't mess with anything until you warm it up about 15 times. I was chasing my tail for a while changing my tps postition and all the other stuff people tell you to do, or check, or change. My neighbor told me how gm's and dodge's computer need time to re-learn the idle and that ford is probably the same. I've had people tell me it takes up to 80 miles of driving, but it is just a matter of letting a cold car warm up about 15 different times. I like my exhaust. A lot of people seem to like it to.

Yeah I got quite a few compliments on mine when I had that setup as well. Did you read my edit at the top of my first post?

I am not going to adjust anything until the 1000 code or whatever it is (System readiness test incomplete) disappears.
