NOS safety info

I have a few questions for the nitrous guys out there. My father bought a Dry nitrous kit for his 2002 mustang gt which now is mine.....Needless to say I am converting it to a wet kit to be a litte more safe. The kit he bought came with all kinds of crap like TPS sensors and stuff I had no Idea what to do with. It was a NOS powershot kit but he never got it working right. So I took all the wiring off and the only safty feathures I plan on keeping is the "NOS on off RPM activation Switch" the relay that came with the system and both throttle and hand activation switchs. Now the questions, are these safty features good for my set up? Also what Pills should I have for a 2002 mustang gt? It says on the pills now that I have a 2600 and a 6000 but I have seen a lot of 3000 and 6000. Also I have a fuel cut off switch in my fuel rail but not sure how to hook it up? The other things I bought was a bottle warmer with a pressure switch, NOS bottle opener and a Fuel powershot solinoid. So any advice would be good. Anything else I should get? I am running a 100 shot for the street, This car does not see the strip.

It makes no sense to remove "all kinds of crap" as you call it while claiming to try to make the kit "more safe."

The kit he bought came with all kinds of crap like TPS sensors and stuff I had no Idea what to do with.

I suggest learning what all the components do. For instance, nitrous should only ever been triggered when at wide open throttle. This is why there's a TPS sensor in there. If you eliminate that sensor, your setup will be less safe.

Wow not really the anwser I was looking for, Im sure NO one has used Nitrous on the street before....Def. not as much as a 100 shot! The "crap" I took off was the TPS switch, which is replaced with a WOT trigger switch. I also have a RPM on and off switch, and manuel arming switch, and I asked if anyone knew how to hook the Fuel pressure safety switch up. If someone can anwser my original questions that would be cool though. I dont really care if nitrous is illigal on the street and as far as I can see its just about as safe as winding up a turbo. :flag:

Yes get all of the saftey features.I would hope you plan on running
a rpm window switch.A bottle warmer isn't a "saftey" thing however is recommend for sure even in hot climates.You should at least run a Focus
fuel pump in my opinion.If it were my car I would also run larger fuel injectors.
What spark plugs are you running? Are you running a timing adjuster?
Traction will be an issue with a wet kit I would hope your tires and suspension is up to the task.Plan on running a purge kit so you don't get a nitrous backfire and your stock PI intake doesn't get blown into peices.
As for spraying on the street spray at your own risk and get everything
killy recommended.I pray that bhuff30 or Stan Weiss chimes in!
 
You don't "need" a purge kit. They are nice, but for a 100 shot it isn't necessary.

Not sure how to hook the fuel pressure sensor up.

As Ponyup1 mentioned plugs are important. For a 100 shot you'll be fine with 1 step colder than stock plugs. I'd use copper...

As far as the on/off pills, I really suggest moving the "on" pill to 3000. 6,000 is OK to cut off, but if you miss a shift (assuming the car is a manual) you're cutting it REALLY close to hitting the limiter. I'd move it down to 5600 or so, seeing as the car will start falling over there anyway.

So are you ditching the TPS switch and replacing it with a mechanical WOT switch? If so, cool. They are simple to wire in and not hard to get set up. It should come with a bracket that you can bend to fit whatever you need it to. I have mine mounted on my throttle body, but some people mount them on the gas pedal assembly.

You also say you have a manual activation switch... I'd also ditch that and just use the WOT switch (micro switch).

You'll be hooked on the feel of nitrous. It even smells good coming out of the exhaust, haha.
 
The fuel pressure safety switch is open unless the set fuel pressure is present (commonly 35-40psi). That means, it doesn't allow current flow to the relay unless there is enough fuel pressure present. Wire it inline with the ground side of your relay, following the picture and instructions here: http://www.nitrousexpress.com/Instructions/fpss.pdf

I think you are well set up on the rest of the safety stuff. I would have a switch to 'arm' the system, which prevents power going to the solenoids unless it it toggled on. The hand activation switch isn't necessary with a WOT switch.

I've never sprayed a 4.6, but just think about where the torque really picks up... I'd say around 2800 to 3000 is a good place to start on the window switch turning on, and 5800-6000 is a good place to turn it off. The idea is just to keep it from turning on a lower rpms and turn it off before the rev limiter. Hitting the factory fuel cut rev limiter while spraying a wet shot is an excellent way to burn up the engine.

Ok there is some good info. I do have A purge solinoid hooked up already, so I should be good there. I am going to order some new "pills" then, probibly the 2900 and the 5800 I believe someone mentioned. I found out the other box I took off was a fuel enrichment for the dry kit. I did some of the wiring today and need to finish up tomorrow, but I couldnt find a place to mount the WOT switch. So if anyone has any ideas or pictures that would be cool to. I have read that the stock tune is safe to run a 100 shot, anyone read that? I also have a set of 75hp NX jets around, maybe that would be a little safer? Also I do have a manuel arming switch to arm the relay and throttle mounted switch. What is everyone else dyno'n with some bolt ons and a 100 shot?

I wasn't trying to go against your suggestion for one, just saying that it's not something that should keep you from spraying if you don't have one.

I mounted my WOT switch on the throttle body. I bent the tab so I could attach it on one bolt that the throttle body attaches to the plenum with, and then have it set so when I go WOT the TB arm touches the WOT switch.

And you "can" spray a 100 shot on a stock tune. I'm doing this to a certain degree (I have tweaked the timing a fuel a little bit on a stock tune).

75 shot is safer and you can do that on a stock tune.
