not really happy with car stance

66 coupe, I installed grab-trak front suspension with 620 coils that I cut 1/2 coil off, the rear has 4 leaf mid-eyes with 1" lowering block...I have not yet even driven the car , should I expect it settle some, or should I relocate the upper A-'s (shelby drop) and change 2: lowering blocks in the back?? For a pic of the car do a search for "99% done what do you think"

For the front, it is always good to do a shelby drop but that won't give you any significant lowering. I still recommend it regardless. The coils, I bought 620's a while back, I cut 1.5 coils off, a bit much but I like it low. Try cutting another 1/2 coil off the front coils. Or, if you want to play it safe, do it in 1/4 coil increments and eye it til you have it where you want it. After every height change, drive the car down the street before you look at it. The suspension needs to settle after being up on jacks.

Yes the car will settle when you drive it. Don't cut more without driving!

I just put some coils in my car and I cut too much. I may end up buying another set of coils. It kind of sucks!

How much did you cut? I'm about to cut my springs.
I guess the 1/4 coil at a time is the way to go.

I got some 620s and I cut a coil and a half off them. The car is about the same height as it was before, which is fine for now. I think I'm going to have problems when I want to put in the Cleveland with long tubes, though. I don't really mind having my subframe connectors hit the ground, but having headers hit is asking for all sorts of trouble.

I put in the 620s and the nose was sky high. It was about 5 or 6 inches too high. So I thought I could safely cut about 2 or 2.5 inches off the springs. I was wrong.

thanks for the info, I initially cut 1/2 coil. I'll drive it a bit and if needed cut off another a 1/4 at a time tll I get it right..

Front and rear springs will settle after a couple weeks. Check page one of my web page for what I did to my suspension and the stance. In those pics the 5 leaf rear springs are new . Only been on the car a few days and I expect them to settle up to half an inch. If not I'll be using small blocks to bring it down just a bit.

My front end was high after putting in some new 620's. Rear got new leafs and was about right for my liking. I went to checker and picked up a couple sets of spring clamps. Threw them on the front coils, squeezed the coils together on each side of the spring. Was perfect for my needs. It seems like it allowed the rear to lift up a little as well as bringing the front down.

I agree with whomever said to drive it before you do anything, but the clamps may get you where you need to be without cutting.

Just went and looked at the picture. If you aren't wanting to lower the rear at all, I think those spring clamps would get you where you want. I think they came to $13 with tax for two sets.

That is a sweet looking Cobra too!

the rule of thumb,or at least how i heard it was, each coil is equal to 2 inches. I cut 1 coil off my 620's and its sits nice and rides good,but if you jack up the front,hte coil will fall over in the pocket.
