Second hand carb, supposedly rebuilt but who knows...

Anyhow, car turns over, fuel is getting to the carb (pump is working) and there is a spark, but there's no ignition.

'66 with a 302.

Carb is an older Edelbrock 1406. I attached it as part of a 2 bbl to 4 bbl conversion.

I have a hunch that there is no fuel going into the cylinders but no way to confirm this. Anyone?

Or any other suggestions as to what I should try?

Take the air cleaner off and see if the accelerator pump is working. If it is, the problem is some where else. The distributer could be 180* off too.

You never said if the car ever ran or if this is a new problem since installing the carb.

Sounds like your timing is off either a cog or 180 degrees. I had that same problem with my car and its easy to do. Once i got it lined up correctly she fired right up.

This is new since installing the carb. I haven't tried starting fluid yet. I have flipped the distrbutor 180 degrees to no avail.

Now when you "flipped the distributor" i hope you just rotated the engine 180 degrees and reinstalled it....on the compression stroke not the exhaust stroke.

Did it run at all? or is this the first attemt at starting? Check compression, and if thats fine, then either rebuild the carb, or send it to someone to look at.

The starting fluid will confirm or deny that it is a fuel issue.
A no start is a simple check list thing. Battery charged? Gas in tank? Power to starter? Spark at distributor? Spark at cylinder?
