I've been having problems with getting locked out of high rpm shifts on the track. It has something to do with the burnout. No burnout, and I can nail every gear at 6200 rpms with no problem. I've tried shorter burnouts, lower rpms, 1st gear vs 2nd gear, etc. and apart from a (useless) very short, low rpm, first gear burnout, the problem is always there.
Mod-wise, I've switched over to an aftermarket quadrant/firewall adjuster, and played with the clutch engagement position (emphasizing high pedal engagement off the floor). I also changed to an MGW shifter. The problem still persists.
One thing that helps is after the burnout/before staging, if I push in the clutch and shift through all the gears. This helps, but it doesn't get rid of the problem.
But today, I discovered that if I go into reverse and back up a foot or so, then go back into 1st gear, move forward (after burnout/before staging), the notchy feeling goes away, and I'll have a clean pass. Sometimes I need to do this twice before the notchiness disappears.
I did this "reverse" trick three passes in a row, and nailed every gear.
Any idea of what this is telling me? Someone at the track guessed that maybe the tranny mounts are shot and the tranny is twisting a little during the burnout. Any ideas?
