I am notching my pistons and a thought occured to me. How much material can you remove before the stock forged pieces are prone to breaking or damage? I have removed quite some material for a depth of 0.160". I'm not scared to run them N/A just worried about when I add the 9psi to them.

Yes, going from stock E7's to 6025 Edelbrock RPM's with 2.02" intake valves. The exhaust had plenty of clearance. The intakes however were hitting the side of the stock reliefs(eyebrows).

what is plenty on the exhaust side? And what clearance are you trying to achieve on the intake?

How much for the rods and pistons?

As for the exhaust side, clearance was 0.130"
I am going to see if the short block will last for a year or two. So on the intake side I wanted plenty of room, 0.160" should be plenty. I am debating on getting the dremel out and touching up the exhaust side. What do you think SBFtech?

80 on the intake side and 125 on the exhaust

you don't need as much clearance on the intake side as you do on the exaust, think about it, if you flote the valves when the piston is comming up on the exaust stroke it will be cautching the exaust valve and smack. None of the other stokes (intake, compresion, or power) have that issue.

Good point. But like I said the exhaust side is fine. I'm just worried about too much material being removed from the piston causing it to be weak while under boost.

anyone know what the limit is to how much material can be removed before the piston becomes prone to damage?
