I was just wondering are PI Heads really worth it.... Can I just get the PI Intake and maybe port the NPI heads and save money or something along those lines? Lately I have been reading a lot of posts about you don't have to get PI Heads, and I will never have a lot of money. It is a slow but I am planning on mid 13's and I'll be a happy camper. Sorry if its really nubby. Thanks in advance.

EDIT: I just bought the K&N FIPK kit and it will ship in soon. Is it a pretty good buy?

Putting ported NPI heads on will take the same ammount of work and more money (my guess is $1000 bucks to get ported) as putting the stock PI heads/cams while delivering similar, yet poorer results (at best).

You can put PI intake on the NPI heads, but the cost makes it less than optimal. Adapter plaets are available, but at $600 or so for the kit it's kinda foolish IMO.

For like $1350 bucks you can get the entire top end with all the needed gaskets and stuff. Then have it installed.

That would get you close to the 13's. But Convertibles are the heaviest Mustang's so it'll take a little more power to make the mid 13's. You'll need more than just the PI setup.

Thanks a lot for your help!!!
Yeah I plan on doing a lot more, just reading around and looking for mods to do right now.... Just graduated and have to save for college / pay for insurance and the car/ gas and food is kinda hard just working at burger king haha. Thanks again!!!!

Get the PI Heads/intake, some 4.10's, catback and a mid-pipe, some sticky tires, and a short shifter and you will have yourself a nice little mid 13 second :nice: car

Check ebay and the ads here on stangnet, mustangworld, corral, and modulardepot for deal on the heads. I got mine for $250 shipped and I'm picking up the intake from the same sources. Shop around and you can save a few bucks. Also for the parts to complete the swap look up Randy Stinchomb at Modular Depot in the parts forum, he'll give you a great deal. Although you can have the NPI worked on to yeild just as good results, it's not worth the money compared to a PI swap. The PI headswap is worth it, you get the full benefits of the newer intake and cams as well as better flowing ports(low lift) and a bit more compression for a whole lot less, especially if you shop around.

Sorry, but it has been proven that ported non PI heads flow better than PI heads. Now if you go and port the PI heads that's a differant story. I do agree with the cost factor though. It would be cheaper to get the PI heads than to P&P the non PI heads.
