I went to my local Ford parts dept today to get new O2 sensors for the stang, they looked it up (engine is an 89 5.0 - 5spd) and the guy says there are 2 part numbers and he needs the # off the O2 sensor in the car to get the right one.

Last time I changed them I went to AutoZone and got a pair and they didn’t say anything about 2 different part #s.

Is this really an issue or will either one work?

Crawl under the car and look for the number or go back to Autozone. I have had it go either way when buying the 02 sensors.

When I bought new o2 sensors for my 89 mustang autozone listed two part numbers for it as well.

We compared them and the only difference between them was that one had an 8" wiring harness and the other one had a 16" wiring harness.

The difference is, one is the original type, and one came out in the later 90's which is a slimmer design and tends to last a little longer than the original ones. The one you want is the DY-605, that is the newer one. The DY-606 is the older style. If you want I can have them shipped to you for $50 for the pair since I work at the ford distribution plant.

Never heard of more than one before -- I would imagine if one came out that was better Ford would discontinue the other.

I forget which autoparts place it was(or mail order) But they showed 2 different ones from the factory but the aftermarket ones were the same number for both of them.
