Are there any negative effects to just removing the 02 sensors?? I'm pretty sure this is the problem on my car and I looked up replacing them and it'll be around $200! Will it make the car run any worse than it already does?? I know the check engine light will be on but it already is, so I don't really care about that. Also, what is a good cleaner for the mass air flow sensor?? I'd like to clean this first to see if this solves my problem, but I'm pretty sure it is the 02 sensors, the car also has 110,000 miles on it. (It's a 2000 V6)

What problem are you having?

Your O2 sensors are probably fine unless you have a code registered for them in the computer. If your car is mostly stock, keeping them will help the car make the most power and get the best mileage.

Carb cleaner works well for the MAF. Make sure it is completely dry before starting the car!

It will cut down on your gas mileage. They monitor oxygen levels and adjust fuel consumption accordingly. Without them the ECU will go to a "limp home" mode and revert to a default air/fuel ratio. It causes the engine to run much more rich and after enough time your catalytic converters could possibly burn out. The biggest problem for you though would be the horrible decrease in gas mileage, as you would end up paying more for gas than the oxygen sensors. And don't forget about emissions tests. You'll fail those for sure if you have them. Do yourself a favor and replace those promptly.

Keep your sensors. You car will run like *&^^%. And to clean your maf, I've always used "electrical parts cleaner" from autozone.

Thanks for the info everyone, I guess I'll just have to replace the sensors. I was reading somewhere else that you only have to replace the sensors at the header/ in front of the cat, is this true? Also, if I took off the cats and gutted them out what would that do? I'm not worried about emission testing, I live in West Virginia and the police around here don't really crack down on illegal exhausts.

Are you sure that your O2 sensors are bad? When they fail, they'll post a trouble code and your CEL will come on. If they haven't failed yet, there's no reason to replace them.

As for which ones to replace, the trouble code will tell you which one has failed. And you don't need to gut your cats. That has no advantage for a V6, and you'll just be polluting the air.

I'm pretty sure they are what's bad, I can't think of anything else besides the maf sensor to why my service engine soon light is on and I got the code read at Auto Zone and it's a: P1413 Manufacturer Auxiliary emission control, so I know it has something to do with the emissions. I took it to the local Ford dealer and they wanted $90 just to diagnose the problem.

Well that code that you are stating is not an oxygen sensor code. It is for Secondary Air Injection Monitor Circuit Low Input

Maybe something like teh MAF needs cleaned, I am not too sure on that one though for sure.
