Well the forums suck now but i do have a quest. hopefulyl theres somebody left to help.

When i fill up, the first quarter of a tank lasts like 30 miles city driving, and like 60-70 highway. The next quarter lasts like 10-20. The 2nd half of the talk can last over 100 miles, which is quite a bit more than the first half. I dont have any probs with my car, cept a strong gas smell, is this bad (the gas consumption thing that is)

Does anyone else's tanks do the same, or are theirs even?

Thanks,
Matt

i would be all over the gas smell - we dont want you to fry. give the entire system a good once over!

if the first half of the tank is going fast, i would take a look at the grommet where the filler goes into the tank. if it is leaking, you will lose the first half of the tank fast (drips out), but then the leak can slow once the fuel level drops below the grommet height.

good luck with it.

you might wanna see if your fuel gauge is working properly? Maybe even something before the gauge that tells it what the level is, is messed up. Dunno, sounds like you have a wierd problem on your hands. Wish I could help out more

maybe the fuel smell and my weird gauge, and the fact that my car runs kinda crappy when its hot outside all are related

i don't think you've got a problem. my car does the same exact thing. i dont think it's a mileage thing, just a problem w/ the guage. of course, i've got a rich smell too

The stock fuel gauge wasn't meant to be a percise measuring instrument, this is why it has only 4 graduations. It's a relative gauge or "idiot gauge" just like the rest of the OEM gauges and everything else ford puts on the car

Get rid of the rich smell and you should get an increase in economy.
