Hey guys. Over the winter I did a 3G alt swap on the coupe. Well today is her first day out and while looking her over I noticed that the alternator has some cracks on it. They are located at about 10 - 11 o clock on the alternator if you are facing it from the front and are on the cooling fins / slots on the front facing side. Is this bad? I didn't notice them on the install so I assume they are new but mayhaps I missed them or belt tension is just enough to slightly spread the cracks apart enough that I can now see them. The car has less then 70 miles on it since the swap.
I reused my old belt. It was tighter due to the larger pully on the 3G alt but still went on ok, and the tensioner marking still reads in the center (but a tad towards the tight side as too be expected).
I'm just worried that the belt could be pulling on the pulley to hard, which is in turn torqueing on the alt case which is cracking it. Tell me I'm crazy so I can stop worrying. Or tell me I'm not so I can fix it and not worry.
Thanks
