Odd transmission noise...

I was just sitting in my car, idling in neutral when I noticed a faint sound coming from the transmission. I stuck my ear to my MGM shifter and could hear what I can only describe as rocks tumbling. The sound is very quiet, but it's there. About a month ago my throwout bearing went, so I had a new clutch put in, havent had a problem with it. All I can think of is if the mechanic put new fluid in the transmission, he used the wrong type, or not enough. I put new fluid in the T5 sometime around sept/oct and I used Dexron III/Mercon, so if he didnt touch the fluid it should be fine.

What could this noise be??

that could be alot of things....I bet you could hear the smog pump or the fan from the all metal shifter cause the noice would travel through everything pretty easy...But I would drain the trans fluid and inspect it and fill it back up with new fluid

you may just be getting paranoid after having the car repaired. $$+down time = ear tune-up.

theres a plastic bushing that sits under your shifter. bad ones or worn ones kinda make a weird noise making the shifter vibrate. cant remember the name of it right off hand tho. could be that

that is normal. mine does it too. i forgot what it is called but it normally happens when the motor is idling really low due to a cam change. when rpms are a little higher it goes away.
