My buddy just bought a 96 cobra vert that is a triple black and the only thing that is wrong with it is the odometer doesn't work. The guy he bought it from said that the cable was broke. But I was woundering where the cable hooked up at? I just got a white face gauge clutster and it doesn't look like it has a cable hook up on the back of it. It just has 2 electrical connector hook ups on it. And the cluster I got is out of a 94-98 mustang like our are. So I figured they would all be the same. But I am not for sure. Any info would be appreciated.

there is NO cable, it's electronic....so it either got a bad speed'o head in the dash, bad VSS or stripped or missing speed'o gears in the trans.....

iirc there isnt a "cable" rather a wire from the trans to the computer, then to from the computer to the cluster. i dont remember exactly anymore, but since the gauge is mechanical there needs to be some way to relay the information.

That is what I figured. The speedo works fine. So I guess the gauge cluster is just bad. Thanks for the info. So the guy that he bought the car from was pretty much an idiot cause he also said the car had a bassani o/r x pipe on it too. But it still has the factory h on it. My buddy didn't know cause he is just now getting into mustangs.

Cluster is fine it just broke the odometer gear, very easy to replace. I just did mine a couple months ago and found a link on here. The link is great cause he has the name of where he bought his gear and I ordered from the same place but cant find their card with contact info. It was only $25 shipped, 50Resto has them to but its both gears (the worm gear usuall dont break) and is $40 plus shipping. But check this link out cause it showes how to do it and where to get the gear.
Hope it helps

Also of note, if you connect the "new" gauge cluster it has to be from either a '96 or '97 in order to work properly on your '96 Cobra. The '94-'95 ones aren't compatible and the '98 wiring harness is slightly different.

both would mean that it'd show no current speed, and the VSS connector being off would throw a CEL
