I called around for quotes for a windshield for my truck. I have a quote of $180 for an OEM windshield or $182.82 w/ new wipers from Safe lite who uses their own glass. I'm sure there's not a problem with non-OEM and I'm leaning towards safe lite, just wanted to ask. They offer a warrenty against craftsmanship errors, etc.

Thanks

Is it PPG glass or safelite? I would have any issues if they cover it all under warrenty.

Unless you are going for a concours restoration, you are just fine.

somebody punched my brothers windshield while he was driving, in his 93 gt. Put a huge crack in it. In florida they change windsheilds for free because its a hazard or something.

lol maybe I don't want OEM(chevy)...I had a rock fly back and hit my windshield and put a ding in it. It's also cracked about 12" right in front of the driver.

I would use the oem since it is so close in price. Several years back, I had a 69 Mustang with a safelite/ppg windshield and it faded to a weird color after a few years. I don't know if the quality is any better, but OEM would definately be my choice.

A rock a semi picked up hit my factory windshield right in the center and put a nice crack from one side of the windsield to the other.

My new one was PPG, looks just like original. Only difference is the installation. They used urethane to seal it in, so you can see some of it inside, but not bad. Put 10 mustangs next to each other and you probably couldn't tell which one was original or replaced. IMO as long as its govt approved safety glass, it should pass all the requirements that the manufacturer had with the original.

If you go with the aftermarket brand... Take some before and after pictures. I need a new windshield also so I'd like to see the differences if there are any.

So they replace the wipers too. Sorry, I had to ask, little confused about this. I know I replaced my wiper refills as soon as I got my new one. Is that what you mean?

they said that you should change them when getting a new windshield because of a possibility of scratching. They replace the arm, not just the refills, for $19.95. The first quote was like $225ish and I said no and told them someone else quoted me $180 and he came back w/ $182.83 including the new wipers, so that sounds good to me thus far.

My mom works for the insurance agency and he said to ask if it's shatter proof and if it meets the required specs; if so, I guess my truck will be getting a new windsheild soon.

Thanks guys.

I put a PPG windsheild in my old Acura and it seemed to be really nice quality. I hadn't even realized how beat up the old one was until I got the new one put in. I sold the car shortly after though, so no idea how durable they are.
