Off-Road H Pipe Question

What is actually involved in installing one of these on a 94 GT? The muffler shop guy rambled on about O2 sensors and the car running lean. I want to install a MAC H-pipe, what else needs to be done besides just having it installed??

It's a very simple bolt on.

1. Your muffler shop guy may not want to do it because it's illegal.

2. Your car should run fine with the off road pipe installed.

just install it. the o2 sensors from your stock h pipe will need to be transfered to your new one. the computer might have to relearn it but there should be no problem.

Oh hey, Doug, i just saw that you're in Louisville, i'm in the PRP area, and i've been wanting to do the off-road h-pipe for a while, but wasnt sure about the VET coming back. i heard a couple days ago that the mayor said that no, it's not coming back, so i said, what the hey!

you may want to get new o2 sensors if yours are still stock

O2 sensors last a hella long time, just drop by any AutoZone and have them run the codes, that will tell you if you need O2s or not... as far as installing them, the hardest part about an O/R H is getting the nuts on the header bolts... that's the hardest thing... and depending on the quality of pipe you get, if it will easily fit w/ the catback, or if the air tube will fit again easily...

-keep in mind: take your time, have fun, try not to swear when parents are around and don't touch your O2 sensors w/ anything... remember, they are close to $70 for each one... $45 for the knock off versions...

having an O/R H pipe has nothing to do w/ your car running lean b/c your 02 sensors are placed before the cats anyway so weather you run a Catted Pipe or an O/R one the sensors wont know the diffrence b/c there sampleing the air before the cats anyway.

take off the stock pipe, put the new one on. thats it.

The only problems you may have are removing the nuts off the headers (just use a really long wrench and some penetrating oil), fitting the smog tube onto the smog connection of the new pipe (hit or miss....my last one was a major pain), making sure you dont get any leaks (just keep all the connections nice and tight) and making sure that your tailpipes stay lined up after the installl.

Also, its easier to just unhook the O2 sensors and remove them once the stock pipe is removed. Then transfer them to the new pipe before install.

Its not hard theoretically. But each car is different and stuff happens so good luck just in case.

I didn't even need any lubricating oil for the header nuts... I just used every air tool/ratchet at my disposal
