I have an 01 GT with Magnaflow catback and I'm considering a mid-pipe. I've read several posts and listened to sound clips trying to decide on a o/r h or x pipe. I thought I had it narrowed down to a Prochamber or a MAC o/r x. I went to an exhaust shop yesterday and the guy said he makes x pipes for Mustangs. He does great work and the kicker is that his pipes are 2 1/2". He claims the sound will be deeper and hp gain will be more than either of the pipes I'm considering.

First, I would like your opinion on mid-pipe setups with Magnaflow.

Secondly, will a 2 1/2 mid-pipe cause any problems with stock engine using 87 octane?

Your thoughts....

Thanks

I think an o/r H will definitly sound better with your magnaflow cat back. The prochamber is 2 1/2" piping and the sound will be deeper with a prochamber then an x pipe. No a 2 1/2" exhaust will not cause any problems on a stock engine with 87 octane. IM me at coman87 for some clips of prochamber with magnapacks.

I had the Dr. Gas o/r x pipe on mine with the Magnaflows. It sounded increddible. I did have a drone at about 2k on the Interstate but my problem had largly to do with my car being a vert.

I highly reccomend the Dr. Gas. Plus, it's dyno proven. Not trying to put down that guy you found, but can he back up his claims?

I thought they were 2.5 inch when I was talking to him, but wasn't sure. I've done some further research and I'll probably go with one from a company. I still have the same debate of going with an x or h. I'll see what other hits I get on the message and make a decision. Thanks for your input.

The X and H-pipe designs are pretty much staight forward. If the guy has a mandrill bender then you souldn't have any issues with a custom made pipe. A mandrill bender makes the bends with minimal loss of inside diameter of the pipe so you don't lose flow.

I've had an O/R H and now a Prochamber with the stock muffs. The O/H H was a little louder than my Prochamber. Both had a really good sound with the stock cat-back with the pitch on the Prochamber just a little higher. That was my experience anyway. I haven't had any experience with an X but have heard they tend to be a little on the loud side at WOT.

Everyone has a hard time deciding between an h or x pipe. The H pipe will give you a deep LOUD sound with okay hp gains. The X pipe will give you a little higher pitched sound, but loud with a little better hp gains. So pretty much all you can do is listen to sound clips and make your own decision. And whats the difference between 2.5" and 2 1/2"? There is no difference, its the same thing. My vote is for any o/r h pipe!
