Off Topic: just saw a GTO

was on my way back from the parts store with a new thermostat for the stang and i see this red car coming at me. looks kinda like a grand am so i pay little attention to it till it gets closer. the lines are all smooth. it was a GTO. are these things even for sale yet. it really isnt a bad looking car but it is still a gm product.

I have yet to see one in person, but I'm not gonna hold my breath. The hp ratings on those things is decent, but otherwise I'm not really impressed with them. Just kinda looks like a glorified grand am or something

They are very nice cars but I thought that it would be later this year before they were for sale. I looked over one at the International Auto Show in Greenville, SC a couple months ago. As far as engine it's the same LS1 that came in the Vette. It has 350hp/350tq and should be more than capable of handling a stock or mildly modded mustang. Oh yea they also have a T-56 trans you can get with them as well.

because we have one in this area. The car is pretty quick too. I believe it ran a 13.3 or so ( bone stock of coarse). I have a video of the car beating out a modded LS1 Trans Am. The car i know of is actually left hand drive. Owner mentioned somthing about it being imported from Iran/Iran or nearby..

I've seen one. Just can't get over how aweful it looks, yet has the the LS1 and a tranny to match. It reminded me of the newer grand am and grand prix (both non-sporty and plastic looking). I hope it fails miserably, unless GM gives it a proper body. The grand am and grand prix are decent "economy" type vehicles, so it is odd that GM would use that platform for a car with a pretty hefty price tag (as I recall, mid to high $30K or more). I could be wrong on the price.

True about it's performance! As much as a lot of stangers may not like the GTO, the fact is that it will take a few mods to match and/or beat one. I'm curious to see what demographic is mainly buying into the GTO. Sure it has the LS1, but I wonder if enough "performance" minded folks will really consider it.
