Official Tremec 3650 Issues Thread

There is no "TSB" There will never be one. I just drove a 2004 mach 1 and a 2004 gt it was around 30* outside the mach 1 shifted like butter. Does it have the same 3650?Are all gears 1-5 the same ratio? I Think it has a different clutch it even feels better. I only have 1700 miles on my gt. It still catches between 1-2 and 2-3 . I have the so called "FIX" And Im not that impressed. IT needs to be better.

not exact same.

Mach1 runs with 3.55 gears, and has a 'longer' final gear.

My 2000 Mustang GT has absolutly no issue with the Tranny. I drove the sin out of that car, and it has the T5 tranny. I recently got an 02 GT and it is up on it's 2 second tranny... now I have bearings grinding at the output shaft, and Ford doesn't want to cover the warranty. Since getting the second stang I have calmed quite a bit down (got married and I now have a kid). Allthough it did see some 'fun' miles, it has not even seen half of what the 2000 stang got.

This Tremec T3650 is a piece of junk. Ford is ruining their reputation by killing hardcore enthuisast like me.

I have had issues with my 1st to 2nd shift until I installed a remote starter. I let the car warm up 10-15 mintuees with the heat blasting. With the car warm all was alright. On the 0degree days I had to let the car warm up longer. I think some people are confusing the question regarding cold shift. One person from Texas resonded but I didnt think temps droped below freezing, my issues we only around and below freezing temp. Ford need to fix this

If a remote starter is necessary to shift without grinding, then it should be factory installed. The moral of the story is "it is normal." I understand hard shifts when it is cold, but grinding is never normal.

I work for an automotive fuel systems company and we test in AZ and Death Valley in the middle of the summer and we test in Minnesota in the middle of the winter to make sure there is no vapor lock or other fuel problems at the extremes. The same should be done for the trans. 30 degrees is not a severe test if you ask me.

My f*ucking 1994 nissan altima shifts like butter in the 0 degree weather, why doesn't my brand new Mustang shift smoothly?

Member on Mach1registry.com went ot his dealer for the 1-2 clunk. He said dealer was able to see information on the TSB.

Of course the dealer may not known what he was talking about, or it may have finally arrived. He posted the message today.

GiddyUp!

:D

I agree Twisted its not normal, just letting people know what I do, I think Ford should do something about it, talk with Tremic and find a fix and make a recall.

Read the threads they have updated parts for a fix. I have not had much luck with new parts installed on my stang though. They have tried to fix my stang , but have failed at this point. I drove a 04 mach and an 04 gt both shifted much better than my 03 gt. It was on a day that the temperature was 30* . My car raked the two 04's I drove did not. At this point I have requested that ford puts in a new transmission with the updated parts in the new transmission from the factory. I hope I can get some good results. I dont want to get rid of my stang. I may be forced to make them buy it back. It only has 1700 miles on it and it is a centennial edition. I would like to keep the car but if they cant fix it I will take other actions. It's a shame too because they only made 3000 centennial editions and I love the car other than the shifting performance. Good luck to all ,with these 3650's.

Meeting with Ford Rep...

I talked to my dealer, and said that they'll have the Ford Rep. check it out, and if he says that the grind is normal, then Ford won't even touch it for the same problem ever again!?

Can they do this? It's my word against his... What's the best strategy?
I'm thinking I'll let him look at it, and if there is no resolution, then I'll threaten to file with the Better Business Beauro, NHTSA, etc...

I fear a blue vane throbber penetrating my anus...

I am making this post in hopes to get some good feedback, this is my first and I am new to the forums.I have owned my mach1 for 8 months and in that time period it has been in the shop 5 times now. The first time it went in because my clutch went out. ford replaced the clutch and said there was a rear tailshaft leak. Both problems were fixed. about a month or so later, I noticed white smoke coming out the back of the car when i was driving, later found out it was transmission fluid leaking from the tranny onto the exhaust. took it back to the same dealership that replaced my clutch, after having my car in the shop for about 2 weeks, they replaced the rear tailshaft gasket again. I drove the car around for about 2 months when again I noticed white smoke. This time I decided to try a different ford dealership, they had my car for about a week and said the only problem they could find was a leak from the rear tailshaft. Again they fixed this problem. The car drove fine for about 2 months when on a trip to San Antonio, I noticed a high pitched winding noise coming from the transmission. I took it to a dealer up in SA and immediatly he tried to void my warranty giving me bs saying i was racing. Well after a test drive the mechanics told me my gears and throw out bearings were going out. They also charged me 50 bucks to refill my transmission. I drove 200 miles after that to come home and drop my car off at a ford dealership in cc. I called the main ford company and told them I wanted a new transmission. The dealership had my car for a week, charged me for a rental, and the mechanics didnt want to touch my car because the x-pipe was in teh way of the transmission, so they cut it off and charged me to have it re-welded. I have had this new transmission for about a month or so and I still feel the 1st-2nd clunk and reverse sticks bad. I can also hear 1st gear wind a bit. I am wondering what I should do about this problem? Call ford and tell them about this and tell them I want a new transmission again? Sue them? wait for the TSB? when does that come out anyways? oh ya and also after this last time I took it in to get fixed I noticed that my paint bubbled up by my tailpipe. Does anyone know why this could have happened?

Welcome to Stangnet. No word on a TSB yet. The latest conversation that I have had with Ford Corportate Warranty is end of 1st Quarter. So ~5 weeks or so.

I think you will get screwed on the bumber paint near the exhaust tip since you have an X-pipe. The dealer is going to blame that as the cause, probably say it allows more heat than....bs.

Well, I took my car in the other day to have them look at my tranny. Didn't really want them to fix it or anything yet since the TSB hasn't been released officially and might be revised I hear. Just wanted to have a documentation of the tranny grinding/clunking from 1st to 2nd since it is starting to warm up here now and it will be hard to prove it.
The guy took the car and test drove it and admitted that he got the car to do what I said it would do. He told me he didn't want to tear it down and work on it just yet because the TSB is still pending -- he said Ford is still researching the problem and will keep in touch with me and let me know when the TSB is released.
Hopefully it'll be soon -- does anyone know if the during warm weather the tranny is still being torn up even though we don't hear the 1st to 2nd grind? I didn't know how warm weather could just up and stop that from happening.
Anyways, just wanted to post what the dealership told me. Like all of you already know they admitted there's a problem with that transmission and a fix is being researched/on the way.

The temperature has an effect on the viscosity of the transmission oil. Cold equals thick, thicker means harder for the gears to spin up to speed as the syncro engages the next gear. This is why they tried the Synthetic ATF fluid fix. The Synthetic ATF has better low temperature properties than regular oil if I am correct.
