Official Tremec 3650 Issues Thread

I talked with my dealer today and spoke of the situations of the 1-2 grind and hard shifting in the cold weather. I sent them to this forum to see that it is a known issue. They arranged an appointment for me on Monday and said they already have a loaner car lined up for free since I have a SVT. I gave them the part numbers of the "known replacement parts" but of course couldn't find anything about it under the TSB's. However, they really want to take a look at it and have transmission tech check it out.
So far the service has been good at this dealer so I figured I would give it a shot. I too have the PRO 5.0 shifter. I am going to leave it in since I mainly purchased it to see if it would help with the 1-2 grind. Of course it didn't....
If they try to say it is the shifter I will stress to them that it has been going on since I bought the car.

Wish me luck,

Hey you guys who have Pro-5.0 shifters, when you installed them didn't you have to cut the lower boot? Even if you replaced the orginal shifter before taking it in for service wouldn't the cut boot be a dead giveaway? Did you guys buy a new lower boot before taking it in for service? If so does anybody have the part# for the lower boot and what it might cost. My tranny got the so called Fix and so far is working great (I posted my service reciept earlier in this thread) but I'm afraid to put in the PRO-5.0 just in case I start having problems again and have to go back to the dealer. Sorry if this is a little off the subject.

I e-mailed tremec and got this response about the issues with the 3650. I am just wondering what "soon" means???

There will be a TSB issued by Ford very soon that will cover this
matter.

Jon from Tremec is an upright guy. I was in contact with him back in Nov regarding this BS and he helped me alot with answering my questions. But I hate to say it, doubt we'll ever see the TSB since it has to be issued from Ford.

I have said it once and I will say it again .
THERE WILL BE NO TSB ! Just look at how long they have been telling people a tsb is comming out. I dont thik ford has a 100% fix for the problem . That is why there is no tsb IMO. I have had the updated parts and Im still grinding. Ford has some big problems with some of these transmissions. The thing that I dont understand is I drove an 04 mach & a 04 gt in 29* weather both of them shifted way better than my 2003.

How do you KNOW this? Maybe you didn't get all the parts that would have
fixed it. Did you compare the parts "motley" had replaced to what you had
replaced? I've seen a few people lately that are very happy with their
transmission after it's been repaired. Quit being so negative. :)

i think your just angry at the fact that you got what you got, and your tranny still sucks, people are getting the right stuff and are having no problem, the talk of a tsb, is more then it ever was, we accually have dealers that know of the problem, and know of a tsb coming soon, as well as tremec. Stop your bitching and complaining, you dont know what the future has in store. Just wait and see, ive been waiting, and i plan to keep waiting, i have a feeling its near.

I agree with you, but maybe you should switch to decaf coffee.

GiddyUp!

jrc_03_gt,

I would take the car back and tell them that it still shifts bad. I would. If I wasn't sastisfied, I'd take it right back and ask that they fix it again. It sounds like to me, they didn't do something right or install all of the newer parts that are out.

My service manager said that I could install the parts that are presently out but there is a possibility that more is coming and I don't want to take the chance of not getting everything it needs. That's why I'm waiting on the TSB. If my car gets up to 35,500 miles and there is still no TSB out, then I will get what's currently out and hope for the best. But it sounds like from the others lately that's had this done, they are really happy with it. I believe bluefishboy was one of them and now motley says the shifting is much better.

Up until recently, there wasn't even newer parts out. This is why I am pretty optimistic myself about a TSB coming out. I've been told by my service manager that it's on it's way. I believe him. If there wasn't, he wouldn't say that just to make me happy. It sounds like to me that yours wasn't done right or didn't get all the parts that are out.

I have a 2000 GT with 27,000 miles. The 1-2 shift is always clunky, and reverse is hard to find from time to time.

Reverse is synchronized too, so shifting into reverse should be no problem... I have not had problems with that. That's not to say that something wasn't wrong with yours.

My car is in the dealer today for the 1-2 shift problem and the noise made in the transmission in neutral. When I push the clutch in the noise goes away.

Also when I get on it... trying to shift into 2nd is very difficult.

I gave them the e-mail from Tremec that states that they know about the issues with the Tremec 3650 and that Ford is working on the problem and that a TSB will be out shortly.

I will let you know what happens.... Hopefully something good.
