Official Tremec 3650 Issues Thread

I have a 2001 gt It has 46,000 miles on it . I'm a ford tech and I rebuild these trannys ever day. I have close to 200 1/4 mile runs and a full season of emra road racing. Although I've lost 4 engines I,m still running a untouched t3650... For all those having problems I suggest You install a quality shifter, w/stops (pro 5.0) and fords semi senthetic merc v auto trans fluid. If That does not hepl matters, I suggest you relearn on how to shift that trans........ 153mph@walkensglen New York.........................................................

:mad: Here we go again, another (so called) specialist telling us how we can't drive a manual transmission :bs: For your information, Tremec actually discourages the installation of an aftermarket shifter with stops because the TR-3650 supposedly has adequate internal stops. The installation of an aftermarket shifter could potential cause a warranty issue (no need to give the dealer any ammo). For someone who rebuilds transmissions every day, you are a m***n :crazy: and I feel extreme pity for the poor sole who is unlucky enough to have you working on their car.

I just checked the fordparts.com website and they have the numbers up now.. So, maybe they just updated the site a few hours ago?

I have no idea what each part actually is.

3R3Z-7107-AA ----> RG-TRA/AX SYN BLK -------------->$289.77
3R3Z-7102-AA ----> GR ASSEMBLY-TRANS INTERM----> $123.18
3R3Z-7124-BA ----> SYN ASSEMBLY TRANS ----------> $102.86

Riley
According to the Parts Dept. at a local Ford Dealership:
7107 - is a syncronizer ring
7102 - is a gear assembly
7124 - is a syncronizer

The only part that was listed as being available in Ford's part warehouse is 7102. The contact at Ford said most dealers won't keep them in stock unless there is a constant demand. Parts would most likely have to be ordered on a case by case basis...

the service manager told me to take any GT off the lot and they will all do it so that makes it normal. I told him that just because they all do it doesnt mean its right. It means they all have a problem. All he had to say to that was to tell me that ford is working on a fix for the millionth time. I got pissed and took the car from them because I didnt want them working on it anymore.

I stopped by the dealer this morning on my way to work and I drove with a tech. The car sat in the lot all night so it was nice and cold. it was about 20 degrees out and it clashed like a mofo and even the tech cringed at the sound. no denying that.

Sonic02GT you are awesome! :nice: I have the same idea, I'm just waiting for the parts to show up in inventory so my downtime will be minimized...

fordparts.com showed the parts being availabe. If my tranny is acting up now I should be able to take it in and have those parts put in, right? I'm gonna call the dealer and ask. If they can reproduce the problem(popping out of second) they should be able to order the parts and when they come in I can bring my car in and then have the tranny fixed with updated parts. Sounds easy but I'm sure it won't be.

from my experience no they will not put those parts in your car because they are 03 part #'s and you have an 01. They said ford will not pay them to put parts from a different year into a car unless a TSB is issued saying they are allowed to do so which i think is BS.

Ok, fellow stangers...This is HUGE!!!!!

Here's another email I received from Jon Vieth of Tremec.

The only thing I ask, is to please be patient and wait a few weeks until production on these parts are completed and your dealer has them or knowledge of them.

So...read them and do the happy happy joy joy dance. Looks like the 1-2 problem has been solved.

I would also like to thank Jon for his responses to my emails.

So in other words, as the Pres said in the movie Independance Day when they shot down the alien space ship....."Spread the word"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The part numbers are:
3R3Z-7107-AA
3R3Z-7102-AA
3R3Z-7124-BA
All parts are due in from the plant this week and should be available through dealers within a few weeks.
Anyone know if this fixes the 3rd gear "lock-out" problem as well as the 1-2 shift problem???
Or is it just for the 1-2 shift issue???
I've had both problems with both a Steeda Tri-Ax & the stock shifter... :mad:
how bout if i dont have the problem? do u guys think they would change the parts anyways? like is this a recall thing or just a thing where u can change the parts because ford was told to do so my tremec? i just wanna know if i can change mine too, i dont have the problem but dont want it either...
Is the synchronizer that is failing made of brass?
If so please comment to my post since I do have direct connections with the manufacturer of these synchro's in the TR-3650 transmission. We build and manufacturer these parts along with the T-56 and the "World Class" T-5 by Tremec.
I also do testing on these synchro's at my work since we check for durabilty and fatigue testing.
There some possible new designs of the manufacturing of these rings. Trust me, I have the ablity to put a 1000 ft-lbs of force into the ring. We call this a "ball load" since it is the load the driver can apply to the shifter that translate to the shifting of cluster gears.
BTW, I am an Engineer too.
I do believe they are brass, as well as the ones in the T-56. I heard of people with 03 Cobras putting synchros from a Viper T-56 in because they are a different material. I don't know for sure though, that's just what I heard, I do believe the synchros are brass though as I have looked at my broken pieces of all three tranny failures I've had and it is now going to be the fourth time as it is popping out of second gear :(
If they are brass, I know exactly what you are talking about.
The syncho's in the T-56 will not fit the in the TR-3650. Those rings have had almost no problems at all (compared to this problem with the TR-3650).
Just let me know some more info. We also make the full blown race synchro's for the factory race teams (GM and Ford). We also build tons of synchro's in the German Markets.
Peace
Yea, Email that guy at Tremec and see if he has a better idea of the date for the TSB, if there even will be one.
Be patient.
I told the service tech at Ford that I would give him 2 weeks to see what's going on, which would be next wed, dec 3rd.
If I don't get a TSB response from him then I will contact Tremec to see if they could help.
Good, bad or indifferent, you don't want to piss the person off who's working on your car, even if it's under warranty.
We've waited this long, another few days should be fine.
Well, that is the part that my company builds for Tremec. We do not manufacture the brass rings, but we bond the carbon based material to the synchro ring. I know for a fact that Tremec engineers with be meeting with the Engineer at my work who is in charge of this project on Tuesday this week. The engineer of my company just flew down to Tremec manufacturing plants in Mexico to discuss this with them. However, the week before I had just finished tests on 5 possible new designs(including new material and not just brass. I can't talk about the materials/ processes). I will tell you this, there was one design that performed more than 8 times our current production.
I'll leave it at that until I hear more information that I can release.
I know how much of a headache this part has been, even coming from the manufacturing standpoint.
