Official Tremec 3650 Issues Thread

Hmm.. well I have 2 years of warranty left...... and I wonder if ford will charge extra to remove the driver side BBK LT header to get transmission out.. This TSB will last as long as we still have the warranty right? Maybe I'll wait 2 more years and have them replace the clutch and fix the tranny at the same time :)

i wouldn't wait. Just the thought of them not having the parts anymore. But then again why would they run out of parts.. hehe

Well my 01 cobra goes in tomorrow for the 1-2 grind fix with the new TSB # that came out. It has already been in once and they admitted it was a problem and only changed the fluid... (That was all that was available at the time for a fix) Watch when I go in now they will say that it is normal. I am going to lay a copy of the old work order on the seat so they can see this was attempted to be fixed once before! :)

Same here man , I'm taking the Cobra in today . Same thing , They replaced the clutch quadrant and cable a couple months ago but no fix . I'm also leaving a copy of the old work order and TSB and all the #'s to FORD customer service on the front seat ao they know I'm not messin around . I already called the service manager a couple days ago and gave him the TSB # so he'd be informed when I got there . Wish me luck! My warranty expires in a week! This will be interesting!

ok , Good news , sort of . The service tech called and said that they could not reproduce the problem ........ BUT........ they were going to go ahead and do the work according to the TSB anyway since my warranty is about to expire . I was very happy to hear this but very suspicious! why are they suddenly being so nice , is FORD finally coming to there senses about this problem? Is it because they know I am informed about the situation and backed by this site and all of you (I showed them the post) and know I wont settle for anything less?

Thay said that my car should be finished on wednesday . 2 days!? Does this seem like enough time to rebuild the tranny? Do you think they are just telling me what I want to hear? I cant help but wonder .

I guess I will be optomistic and hope for the best!

I just had my 01 cobra in for the 1-2 grind they are saying that it is possibly a burnt clutch or a pressure plate problem.. they said we can take out the tranny and look at it but if it is a clutch problem then it won't be under warranty. If it is a pressure plate problem it will be warrantied? What should I do here I don't want to get stuck with paying for a clutch replacement which I think they are trying to do so I would have to pay for it. Plus how could the clutch be burnt it only has 13000 miles on it???

Any help and I would appreciate it? Besides if the clutch and pressure plate were going wouldn't also be hard to shift into 3-4 and 4-5? Which that part seems to shift fine??

Thanks,

I am on the phone with Ford customer service right now since Ford is saying it is a clutch problem...
I think they are calling the dealer to tell them to fix the 1-2 2-3 grind clash with the TSB 04-15-06

what's the number to ford customer service? and is your warranty expired??

Phone: 800-392-3673
No my warranty is not expired. It ends in sept. I think the dealer is trying to make money off me by saying lets replace the clutch first and see if that fixes it. Which is not under warranty. Then when that is fixed then they would probably do the 1-2 TSB but I would be out some serious cash from the clutch replacement which isn't right!

cool thanks for the number. As for people that are out of warranty the parts alone for this particular TSB is $1100 estimated. Labor will be additional $1000 at least depending if you need other parts other than what is on the TSB require. LaserRedCobra man, if your car is still at low miles now you don't need a new clutch. If not, get i while you can and make a deal with them. Clutch replacement is not hard and they shouldn't charge you more than $300. As for my bad luck i'm just going to drive the car how it is since it's not all that bad. I just can't powershift/speedshift anymore. Sucks but have to live with it. I'll be trading the GT (02) later on maybe for a corvette or a 04 Cobra. hehehe. Good luck with your stuff. I'm sure it'll be ok in the end. :flag:

I've rebuilt T-5's in 3-4 hours start to finish. The 3650 is a similar trans. I'd expect someone more expeirenced to cruise right through it. The TSB itself quotes 5.6 hours start to finish. That includes pulling it out of the car and putting it in.

2 days is reasonable.

Thanks , that makes me feel better . I just wondered because others I have talked to , the dealer has had their vehicle for over a week with the rebuild . I guess 2 days is plenty of time .

appreciate the vote of confidence!

Yeah that's more or less the dealership jerking around with other stuff. The tranny guy could be off one day, so they have a guy pull the tranny for him. Then the tranny guy comes in the next day, rebuilds it, and goes home. Then another guy might slap it back in that day, or maybe the techs get overloaded or something and it takes a few days to put back in. You know what i mean though. 2 days is a good thing. Means they went to work right away on your car and got it done.

Clutch check.

If the clutch is not releasing properly it would be engaging close to the carpet. The shop manual shows the dealer how to measure the clutch engagement point-they call it clutch reserve. And it would be hard to put into first gear. How much does your transmission grind? Is it worse on a cold day?

It grinds more less when you are shifting 1-2 2-3. Yes it is worst on a cold day. I told them that I believe the fix is in TSB 04-15-06. The service manager says his tech is sticking to it being a clutch problem. It is funny cause I brought my car in on the 29th of March stating the exact symptoms in the TSB!! So they can't say I am making this up cause I saw what the TSB said,,, it is clearly a tranny issue. Also when I brought the car in March the tech didn't say it was the clutch... he said it was the tranny... which is why they did a fluid change cause this TSB wasn't out yet? Man I am pissed!!!

Try another dealer

If they refuse to do the TSB--try another dealer.

I left my car overnight at the Dealer so that it would be nice and cool for a test drive today. Needless to say it shifted perfectly for the Service Tech. It was grinding for me on Saturday.

He say's he'll leave the ticket open and will order the parts and we'll try again in a week or so. My factory warrantee expires at 12:00 noon today! I have an extended warrantee so I eventually get this thing fixed.

If they allow this, I'm going to pay the extra for a new clutch.

My rebuild used 3RZ-7124-AB Curious if I go in there with the TSB if they will repair it to the AC level parts?

I also wonder if this thread put any pressure on Ford to fix this problem. If any ford engineers read this, please contact me. Your customer service hotline has all my information. Jason Prokosch

when i took my car in the first time.... i had printed off some of the stuff you guys have been writing and i told the service manager where he could find the thread.... i dunno if he did though.
