I am about to install a new rack on my mustang, it came with a set of stock bushings.
Should I buy the offset ones or is the offset insignificant enough that the bushings are no better than the stock type.
Offset steering rack bushings move the rack far too much on stock K-Members, and make an acceptible situation far worse than if you had done nothing at all. See our test results in the July 1993 issue of Super Ford, the September 1998 issue of 5.0 Mustang, or call our tech line for more details.
If you have a stock k-member the offset rack bushings screw up ackerman (I believe). If its not that its something else. Look up offset rack bushings on the MM website. They explain it. If you have bumpsteer problems get an adj. tie rod end kit. THey should improve steering response also because they use spherical rod ends instead of a ball joint type setup. But yea if you want alum. rack bushings get the regular kind.
Sorry, I have Sport Line springs, about 1.5" drop. The bushings that came with rack have a steel sleeve. Forgive my not knowing but by aluminum you mean no rubber just an alum sleeve?
This is a daily driver and I do not want to harsh a ride, not sure what the alum bushings will do.

I have alum. bushings and no harshness in ride. Steering provides more feedback. They say it increases road noise but I havent heard any extra noise. Maybe its because of the motor and exhaust. Correction surely its because of the motor and exhaust.

I bought polyurethane bushings, and although it stiffened up the rack movement, I wish I would have went with aluminum bushings. I would check out Maximum Motorsports and order the aluminum ones..
