I broke my drivers side door handle today. It just snapped. When you pull up on it to open the door it just freely moves. It still retains the stock movement of a functioning dorr handle but without any resistance and no opening of the door. SO is it just in need of a replacement handle or is there more to it? Do i have to pop the door panels off? IF so how do i without breaking anything? thanx

the lil loop that holds the rod broke. I'd highly suggest buying new door handles made out of METAL from ebay or 50resto.com. You buy the stock plastic ones and they will break again. Its a common fix on fox mustangs.

Ur gonna have to rivet them on.

There was an article in one of the magazines I read, I think it was Muscle Mustang and Fast Fords, that described how to replace them. Basically it described removing the door panels, drilling out the rivets, installing the new handle. Rivet them into place. 50resto sells the kit (handles and rivets) and also a rivet gun.

It is also possible that the rod just came off the handle. That is what is wrong with my car right now. Taking the door panels off isn't a problem. a couple screws, bolts and panel clips and you are done

no mine didnt loose the cable it broke off, went to open it today and the handle fell to the ground so i say its broken. But its all good now cause i bought a metal one today. Thankfully the previous owner lost both handles and had stock replacements screwed in so its an easy fix now.
