I recently had by Amsoil synthetic tested and though I would share the results. The grade tested was the XL 5w-20. One key thing to note however is I wasn't due for a change on mile, but i was way over on time, Amsoil recommends this grade be changed every 6 months or 7500 miles. I was pushing 12 months on this sample.

Looks as though it tested good even though it was run for longer then recommended. The TBN for this grade starts off at 9.0, and any oil should be replaced by a 2.0 reading, looks as though it still had some life in it yet. Still doing a little reading on the other elements of the test, so I'm not sure how to interpret all the additive readings just yet.

Just looking to share my finding, not start a which oil is better war. Would be interesting if someone tested another brand for comparison, but i haven't seen or missed those threads.

The test kits themselves are sold though the Amsoil dealer network. The website advertises $25 or so per kit plus shipping. If you purchase though a registered dealer they should give you their preferred customer discount. I picked up two kits and it came to $44 and change w/shipping.

The Amsoil dealer network is a little funny, some are actually store owners that also sell amsoil products, others are private sellers just doing it on the side I guess. At any rate, good stuff.

The oil analysis is actually performed by another vendor, Oil Analyzers, so they shouldn't be biased to Amsoil products.

Sorry no. My apologies if i sound like I'm doing a sales job. I don't remember exactly how I found the dealer listing, it was probobly though a link like this

http://www.amsoil.com/dealerinfo3.aspx

Amsoil doesn't have the greatest in dealer listings but try the link, it should give you a good number of options in your area. If your in NY, PM me and I'll gladly refer you to the guy I order with, private dealer(side job) but I've used him for over a year now, easy to work with.
