my car is an 83 mustang It keeps throwing oil all over the exhaust manifold i have replaced the oil cap twice and still keeps leaking it i have even put more gaskets on it and have sealed the bottom of the cap with gasket maker Anyone got any ideas. It loses about half a quart everyday

is it ok to just buy a regular cap that doesnt have a breather on it?

With the cap off can you see the rockers down the hole? If so then the rockers are slinging oil up. Guy mistakenly take the baffle out to get more clearance for the rockers in stead of making a new flatter baffle. Check it out.

do you have adequate crankcase ventillation (other breathers, PCV, etc)? if not, the pressure will take the path of least resistance (an overloaded breather, seals, etc).

and as Jamie said, a leakdown test is much more revealing for finding a source and volume of poor sealing.

good luck.

I had a situation where I was getting oil out of the dipstick like crazy and it was a new engine. I even tried oil breathers and it made it even worse. I ended up taking the lower off and found that the lower gasket had blown out. It was blown out at the middle and forcing the block to be pressurized. I replaced it and no problems since.
