I think it all stems from when people ran it too quick on a new build and the rings never set and they used oil. That went all over the internet and the "don't run synthetic oil" BS was born.

I do not run it because my engine builder told me to run the Brad Penn and with all the $$$ I have spent on these motors that is what they run.

FWIW the reason that so many new engines call for 5w 20 / 0w 20 has much more to do with EPA / CAFE mpg standards than engine tolerances. In the past 10 years or so there are multiple examples of the SAME engine going to a thinner oil with no other changes happening in that engine line. CAFE standards are calculated across the entire vehicle line. The tiniest 'gain' in efficiency for mpg can help raise the numbers for the manufacturer based on volume of vehicles.

One way you can see this easily - an engine used in both the U.S. and Europe, the SAME engine, will spec different oils from the manufacturer.

The sad part is we now have some very expensive undependable, Hard to repair vehicles in the chase for unatainable MPG goals

Exactly why the start/stop was put in newer vehicles.
My brother's 2022 vette Has that annoying and to shut it off he had to pay GM for the software to delete it.

Fortunately, my 2020 truck has a button to shut it off, but you have to press it each time you start it....

Every vehicle has a work around. Jeeps for example? There are TWO switches / sensor that determine if the hood is open. Unplug the right one? No check engine light - but stop / start doesn't work.

I should add that if I forget to press it and my Diesel engine shuts down at the turn signal some " Gosh darns" are commented upon...

I hate that function so much but not for the reasons most would think,i hate it with a passion cause it drives me crazy listening to it, ha ha ha, like when your traveling for 8 miles next to someone and you gotta hear that at every stop light, its like "man, rip that thing out!!! ha ha ha, all my cars i drive are old so i have never experienced that annoying thing myself.

On the subject of the oil i use Driven 10W 30, been using it from day one on my 347 build, i figure if i spent that much money on a motor, 70 bucks every few months is not a bad investment, that oil is green, pretty weird looking, since i built that engine 3 years ago i have logged every single oil change, how many miles etc , i used Comp break in oil for the first 500 miles or so, good stuff.
