Oil Coming Out of Breather....?

I have been having a small oil leak for some time now, and haven't been sure where it could be coming from.

Tonight I was showing a guy at work my engine and he asked what my breather filter was, I took it off to show him and upon looking at the bottom I saw a small puddle of wet oil.

Could oil be coming up and out of the breather?

What bigger problem could cause this?

Well the rockers are right under the tip of the breather. Oil splash is normal. If you have oil shooting out of the element on the breather then that's a whole other story. If you want peice of minde then do the ol'faithfull compression test. May put your mind at ease.

I don't think it is shooting out, but could it slowly create enough to drip?

Seems to me that Tim (amongst others) posts a pic and link to the FRPP breather with a relocation line. That might help depending upon what kind of breather you run now.

Tim, I am with you about unnecessarily running an open breather but I dont bother much with it anymore. These smart folks can decide what they want to do (I would assume that there is a good reason why people delete the PCV).

LOL! Smart folks running breathers\deleting PCV, and deleting EGR (with or without shutting it off in the computer) as the PCV system and EGR only have benefits and no real detriments to performance at the track since EGR is not functional at WOT and PCV extends engine life! Like you, I don't post for those guys who "know better" than the Ford engineers, but for the new guys who may be lead astray by bad information.
And with regards to the cap that I posted, it has built in baffles for VCs that don't have internal baffles. My brother runs that cap and he loves it.

The oil seperator would work at the PCV valve (I run one and love it) but his problem is at the valve cover oil cap. He's running a breather cap and oil is coming out of it because he needs an oil baffle in the VC (or on the cap). One doesn't want to run a one way valve of any type from the oil filler neck\oil cap to the TB or intake as that line is suppossed to work in both directions unlike the PCV line in back of the intake.

Yeah my breather seeps al ittle oil from time to time, not much but i dont have any baffles in there. I will probably address this when i have the engine out doing work on it this summer.

I'm thinking it prevents oil from coming out of the breather cap .... but I may be wrong.

Yep, and the cap that I posted earlier in the thread has a baffle built in for use in valve covers that have no baffle. Very convenient!
