Well first "major" stumbling block. We went to put the oil dipstick into the Canton oil pan, and there is NO way in h3ll that that it will fit through the long tube headers. Is there a flexible dipstick or something else that will allow us to install a dipstick?

I saw a company called Lokar, but I wouldnt be too sure if it fits, and which one to get. obviously it would have to thread into a Canton Oil pan

u should be able to bend the dipstick slightly to make it fit. you can bend it right on the header. thats what i did.

Can you come over and do mine

It doesnt look like there is any room at all for that. How do you turn it to tighten the nut if the tube is bent?

RC, Wes has used a Lokar dipstick as I recall. Though I dont recall that he has a Canton pan, he has oscillated with his dipstick usage and different sets of LT's. He might have some input.

He has the stock oil pan...dont know if that would apply. The canton has a screw in tube.

Any reason why you have to use the Canton pan dipstick hole and not the block hole? On my Moroso pan I use the stock block location hole and modified the mounting tab of the dipstick tube by cutting it off and welding a washer on where is will align with a header bolt.

You can use a tubing bender to bend the Canton tube the can be a pain but it will fit. Lokar should have a dipstick and fitting for the pan as well....

Just remember to remark the dipstick for the oil level once you put the right amount in, the marks are not always correct.

It's an after market block...I have to see if there is a dipstick hole that matches up.

I guess I will try bending first(as Rick Suggested) I already have tech emails out to Canton and Lokar to see if they know the answer..

Here's a pic of my Lokar - it has the added benefit of not easily popping out if you are building up crankcase pressure with a blower... of course that pressure just finds the next best seal etc.

If you decide to go with the canton pan, looks like PN 20-850 or 20-852 will get you rolling.

You'll also have to block off the stock dipstick hole if your aftermarket block has one.

I did this on my mach 1 by drilling the hole halfway down and then taking a plug shaped like a bowl that exactly fit the hole and hammering it with a punch, bowl side down and allowing it to expand out then putting a dab of RTV on either side.

i'm going through the same headache now. lokar makes a flexible dipstick with a 1/4 npt fitting at the end for threading into pans like the canton. i called lokar to order it, they told me i would be better off ordering it through summit. ok, so i call summit, order the damn dipstick (at almost $80) and they tell me it will be drop shipped directly from lokar. that was over a month ago and i have yet to receive it. i called summit twice, the first time they told me it was on backorder and the second time they told me it was on its way, that was over a week ago. so on monday i'll be placing a 3rd call to summit so i can get to the bottom of this. but i feel your pain, i've been running without a dipstick for awhile and i haven't been happy about it. i did a bunch of research on it and there seems to be a bunch of guys that have made the canton-supplied dipstick work with a tubing bender, i just didn't see how it would work so i decided not to run one at all.

that lokar stick your using, is that for use with canton pans that accept a 1/4 npt screw in style dipstick? i hope so because i have one on order and hopefully it'll arrive sometime before christmas!!!!

its not an aftermarket block. its an oem production 5.0 block.

CHris..You need to "SHOW" your face around here a little more.. A lot of what Im doing now applies to what you have ALREADY done...could use the advice.

Anyway...WHAT is the part number of YOUR lokar? It cant be the one that simply says "for 302" because I think that one PUSHES in, and the one for the Canton has to screw in and have the proper oil level lines. IS there a specific one for the Canton?

The lokar site says this ed-5005 is for 351, but screws into oil pan, and has 1/4" NPT fitting...I guess I can call lokar this week and ask them.

Rob, I'm surprised you are having issues with it. I'm in the process of putting 1-3/4" long tubes on my car right now and last night after reading this I thought I was in for a world of problems getting the dipstick to fit... mine went right in without even having to re-bend it. I'm running MAC 1-3/4" long tubes and a canton pan. I can take a pic for you if you'd like.

Those are the lock ones... The one I posted a link to has the same 1/4 fitting, but is not the lock one...about $25 less.

We are not all as lucky as you. Well as you can tell by the other replies it is not only me. Also, when I got the car from Roger, he did "warn" me that the dipstick would be a PITA, and was not in at the time. I just forgot to bend it in shape witht the headers on OUT of the car. I will talk to Lokar or Canton this week and ask them, and that will be my plan b if the stock doesnt work out.
