Okay all, I got a question for you...Has anyone ever heard of an oil filter breaking the can away from the base? This is a first for me, I am not a mechanic, but have been working on cars for a little while.

The car is a 2000 GT with a Paxton novi 2000 - with that in mind, I talked to a friend and they said it might be the pressure relief valve is stuck in the oil pump. I would figure though the oil would release through the SC. Since the oil line is run right from the pressure sensor location.

The engine was just rebuilt (as I was putting it back together) and I have confidence in the builder, but I am at a loss at what would cause this.

Any help would be great…Thanks

motorcraft

I used a brand new motorcraft FL-820S. I was thinking that could be, but once the filter was completely apart it looked fine.

I would look at the pressure relief valve first.

I've heard of trouble with fram filters. I've experienced two problems with them.

1. It wouldn't flow oil INTO the filter (small holes) were manufactured wrong so oil couldn't get through them. Put a different brand filter on and it worked fine

2. On my gf's honda prelude she was going to idaho for a vacation and drove her car. She was driving and this was about a month after I changed her oil with no problems, and then oil started coming into the car, oil smoke. She stops and come to find out the little gasket on the oil filter blew out. seriously wtf. quality

Just remembered one more
3. My dad replaced the fuel filter on our old ford probe and the fram fuel filter he put on had a piece of casting that didnt get stamped out of the filter, so it was plugging the line. The car would idle ok, but had NO power whatsoever. It was bad. We took it to a shop and they checked a bunch of stuff, ended up being the fuel filter replacement that did it. Keep in mind the filter was 2-3 days old at the time haha. We got fram to eventually pay for shop expenses and everything though
