My car has a questionable history because the guy I bought it from only had it two months before he wrecked it. I got it cheap, and fixed the damage. Unfortunately, the guy I got it from didn't know a spark plug from an oil filter, so I wasn't able to extract much information from him. There were some obvious mods done to the car, but it had the stock GT intake, and stock gear, so I figured there wasn't a whole lot done. The obvious mods were a stiff azz clutch, Blaster coil, 9mm wires, CAI, O/R X-pipe, dumped Flows, B&M Ripper, and a couple other little things.
I have stumbled upon something that is quite interesting however. You know how the book shows 2 filters for our cars (one for T, and one for another letter). Well, everything I can find on here says that the Fram 8A is the size that fits the GT application, and the other one (shorter one) is for the Cobra. I have a 95 GT, and mine takes the shorter filter (not the 8A). I've bought the 8A equivalent (not Fram) three times, and had to go back to swap it out. Call me hard headed, but I always get it mixed up when I'm at the parts store. The one mine takes is shorter, and is a different thread. Slap me if I'm being stupid here, but does that mean that some part on my motor is from a Cobra (previous owner)? I guess it could just be the oil filter adapter, but I'm kind of getting my hopes up here. Are the serial numbers on the block still behind the starter like the older 302's? What about the heads? Let me know what you guys think.

Only reason it would take a shorter filter was if something interfered. I thought the Cobra filter was the same thread, just shorter due to the oil cooler adaptor that screws onto the block...

I am beginning to think I am going crazy (or my car is). I have tried to install the longer version twice, and it will go half a turn, and lock up like it is cross-threaded, or a different thread. I go exchange for the shorter version, and it goes right on.

Cobra filter is the same thread. It is short due the factory oil cooler. I have no problems using the F1A or Frams 8A on my cobra. Just a little tricky to get in there.
