oil filter relo

Searched and didn't find anything directly on relocation....

I saw a kit on Jeg's site and wanted to do this, just for quick changes without spillage. Is it worth it? Has anyone done it?

Should a cooler be a priority over this? I want my car to go the distance as far as mileage goes and to have ultra quick oil changes in the meantime.

Supposedly, the 4.6 engines have a patented oil cooling system built-in. Don't have or haven't seen any details on this, yet.

I'd be interested in a relo kit, but the ones I saw in Jeg's (your link) and Summit all specify the Fram filters. I wonder if they use NPT fittings or not ?

There is an integrated oil cooling system? I would like to hear more on this.

I'm seriously looking at the oil filter relo. If I do it, I'll surely do a write-up. I hate spilling the dumb filter. Even covering it with a plastic bag makes a mess. Yes, the relo kit uses a Fram ph8a or equivalent.

probably start a debate here but don't use Fram filters. Also, if you drain the oil completely, I haven't had a problem with a mess.

No, I wouldn't use Frams........just showing the universal applicability of the relo kit (the JEG's site is).

Sorry to pipe in here... but why not use Fram? Just curious cuz I just did an oil change and slapped a Fram on.

Some people feel they don't have the protection.
Personally, I've seen my dad use them for years and have most of his trucks go well over 200K miles, so go figure?

Only Cobras have oil coolers. They use circulating engine coolant to lower the oil temp and have a feed and return line to the coolant system.

In the FRPP catalog the oil relocation kit has a note that states "not for racing applications". I believe that this is due to the fact that extra turns, bends, and distance in the path to and from the oil filter cause a reduction in pressure/flow.

I personally do not recommend oil filter relocation.

I use a large sheet of aluminum foil below the filter to channel the used oil into my drip pan which prevents it from getting all over the steering gear and driver's side A-arm. I cleaned all the old oil residue off these parts with carb cleaner and they look shiny and new always now

Also, Motorcraft oil filters have an anti-reverse valve in them that prevents oil from draining back into the pan and causing a cold start rattle. I believe it is best to ALWAYS use Motorcraft parts for your expendable maintenance items...

Hmm. Yeah, that's why I said supposedly - didn't the 4.6 Police Interceptors have an oil cooler builtin, too ?

KT, good post.

I plan on using the MC oil filter. Did not know that the filter had a valve in it to prevent such spillage. Always used Frams or Napa golds on my past vehicles.

As for the foil, that is a good, cheap alternative, I suppose. The only problem there is that you count on there being no wind. I live in the Great Plains where if the wind is NOT blowing, something is bad-wrong. Makes it tough to hold foil in place, let alone the drip-stream of oil going everywhere under the car. Problem solved, if I can trade up in houses (maybe this week) for a two car garage (one car right now, only).

I don't want to start a war in here and maybe I should not have said, don't use Fram. Fram filters are inferior to for example, Motorcraft, there are other filters as well. If you change your oil regularly, they will be alright. There are just better filters on the market that are not very expensive.
do a search on fram filters and you will read all you care to.
Some different filters are made in the same place with different specs and materials.
