oil for VT engine break in?

guys im hoping to be dropping in my vt engine next week if vt ever gets it to me. it has bee 6 months of waiting!!!! does that seem a bit long?

anyway, they say they have shipped so we will see. its the only thing im waiting on

ok so VT says for the breakin of their engines NO SYNTHETIC oil.

what oil are you guys useing for a built engine break in...what rel=gular oil do you reccomend?
 
Personally I would use some Delo 400 engine oil. Its what most of the long haul big rig trucks use...probbaly one of the most advanced non synthetic oils out there....some really good stuff. We ran it in my 66 stang for quite a while....pulling 7500RPMs at times.
 
funny, VT tells you what NOT to run, but doesnt offer a recommendation?

I'd roll with a name brand Dino oil, like Valvoline or Motorcraft.

Im hammered btw.
 
6 Months!!! Is it a shortblock or long block? Either way that is WAAAAY to long. I got mine in like 6 weeks and that was even with like a 2 week vacation due to Christmas and New Years. I can t see why it would have taken them that long other than they are really really busy or somethings were out of stock.

As for oil I ran/run the same stuff I always have. Just change it after first 10-15 miles, then at 500 miles, then at 1000 miles and then your good to go. Remember keep the rpms low and build them up over time, also no crusing long distances at a steady RPM/Speed.
 
VT is slow. It took me a month to get my cams when they had them in stock. I could never get them on the phone, and when I finally caught someone by email they said they would help me no problem. They contacted me the next day saying the found my order in the shop and they were going to overnight them to me at no extra cost. I received them the next day, except they shipped out a week and a half prior- they didnt overnight them, they just looked at the tracking number and saw they were getting delivered the next day.

They have great products, but I havent had good luck with customer service- but many others have.
 
thanks guys, good replies. i have to admit, 6 months is too long. i dont know what they are doing over there. it is hard to get in touch with them. well, hopefully the engine is awsome quality like it is supposed to be and i will be ok with that.

hotstang, where would i get that type of engine oil? i think i might have to just stick with something i can pick up at pep boys.

they did say after it is broken in i could go synthetic but i dont know if i will run synthetic in it for a while. i run synthetic now and i like the fact that i feel like my engine is protected with the best.

what is the best non synthetic? valvaline? go the same weight/specs as the ford manual says? i mean does it make a difference that this is a stroker block or not a ford block you think?

Hotmustang's talking about Delo 400 15/40w which will be at most any damn local store that sells anything close to oil. Delo 400 also is in a straight 30SAE, so avoid that. I used to work at a petroleum company, we'd sell Delo 400 by the pallet.
 
there is no SPECIFIC stroker block.its the entire engine make up that makes it a stroker-rod length,crank and bore size. i just used valvoline regular 5w30 for my break in,start the car and run it for about 20 minutes at about 2-2500 rpm then change the oil.after that just take it on a short crusie around town maybe 10-15miles or so not bringing it above 3500 then change it again.then just drive it around progressively bringin the rpms up higher not exceeding 3500-4k rpm at max for about 100 miles then change again then same thing not bringin it up past 5k max for 500 and change then till 1000,then let here fly.some say after a few hundred your gunna wanna lay into it pretty decent just to heat it up nice to get the rings to seat.this is what i did with mine and i have no smoking issues or anything.i was hitting full throttle high revs by about 850-900 miles.just make sure you stay on top of the oil changes,it will get expensive too if you have a 7qt like i do.good luck with it.
 
yes, i will have the 7qt pan. just got the moroso one in the mail today. it looks really nice, i didnt think they looked thie this. moroso must have re-done them or something.

anyway, i wont really be able to relly get on it while breaking in the engine because i will have an untuned blower on top. i will try to vary the rpm range as i drive but i really cant get it into boost.

it dont matter what rpm's im driving at as long as im not over half throttle i shouldnt be into boost right? do you think this will be ok to break the engine in?
