oil gauge tubing length sender to A pillar??

Just about to order a autometer phantom oil pressure gauge and it comes with 6 feet of tubing. Wondering if thats enough to reach from the oil sender on the front of the engine to the A pillar in the car? I wanna replace the stocker and put the autometer in a dual pillar pod. Thanks

The problem with electrics is they rarely have a full sweep display and usually cost more if they do.

6ft should be enough.

yes it is ......I just installed my 6ft mech gauge for oil pressure and it perfect length. I mounted it to the piller.

Did it really? I didnt think itd be enough. My oil sender is on the front drivers side of the engine since its an 85 rollor 5.0 . Is your in the same local???

damn u sure u wanna put that thing on the inside of your car. i mounted all my mech. guages out side just so that if anything spilled it wouldnt leak in my car and beleive me, it will leak

and yeah mech definitly. I have a digital temp electric gauge now and I have some electrical issues in the car. Honk the horn, the temp jumps 5*, turh in headlights, temp jumps 5-10*. Etc. No more electrical gauges fpr me except my volt meter.

Again guys, thanks alot. I was tryin to figure out how to make a 6 ft braided line and a custom length copper tube work.

I can get a 6 foot stainless steel teflon coated an4 tube with NPT fittings for $50.00. As long as everything is sealed good, and precautions are taken to not kink the tube, I think itll be ok. I have talked to lots of stangers who run the gauge inside. Now fuel pressure is different. Thats recomemded to go outside by pretty much everyone. Im just tired of looking at a crap gauge that says "NORMAL" on it and hoping that everthing is good.

In theory, thered only be 1 place it could leak. at the connection between the gauge back and the SS tube. If you take precautions and use teflon sealant and dont over tq the fitting, it should hold, correct?

And how is this ss braid line made? Is it purely ss braid or does it have a inner tube of something and the outter is ss?

Im thinking of tryin to make my own 8ft tube for the Apillar mount cuz it seems allful close to me with 6 ft. due to the length needed to wind the tue under the dash outa the way of feet and then up the sie of the pillar.

Mine wasnt long enough. I had to buy another tubing kit and use a splicer from the hardware store to extend it. I have mounted plenty of mechanical pressure guages in the interior of my cars over the years. While it is possible for it to leak in your car, I have never had it happen. Of course I wouldnt take any chances with fuel but I wouldnt trip on it too much with an oil guage. Just make sure there isnt anything that can rub through the nylon tubing. That stuff is tougher than poeple think, its not gonna burst and squirt oil everywhere. A bunch of my circle track buddies use that stuff for brake line.

Ya it was the perfect length. routed it thru the grommet under the brake booster and thru the loome that was already there. It pops out right about the oil filter and goes right in. just right length.

Hi guys. Sorry for the delay, been sick. I got to thinkin, what about hydraulic hose? it comes in 1/4 and 3/8 sizes as well as AN sizes and has either AN or NPT fittings. There are always adapters. And the stuff has a 1000 PSI rating. I can get a 8 or 10 ft length for like $20. Just an idea.

twolo4u2c2, when you ran the line, does it enter behind the dash or by your pedals? I have ran all my wires through the rubber barrier around one of the pedals and then back up to the pillar. I can see if theres a spot higher on the firewall, it would be alot closer to the pillar to begin with.

Also did you have any problems with the rear of the gauge and the hookup to the supply tube? Seems like it could get alittle tight back there between the gauge pod and the pillar itslef.

On hydraulic hose, the AN you refer to is most likely actually JIC. The angle is different and not compatible even though they do look very similar.

alright well theres a couple of ya who gt it done so I guess its worth a try! I think Im gonna get some old water hose or something like it and cut to 6ft and find the best way to run the hose, ei shortest travel...

On these mech oil gauges.... What are the fitting sizes Ill need to hook the gauge up? What the size of fitting Ill need for the engine side hook up itslef? And what is the size on the back of the gauge??? Thanks

I think I would use copper line before using plastic water line, myself.

Many guages have a 1/8" fitting on the back of the gauge. The stock boss for the OP sender is 1/4" NPT (on the hex tube egressing the block).

I found a guy on ebay that sells teflon lined ss braided lines in 6ft,8,10,12ft ,and custom lengths for a good bit cheeper than AM does. Its manu. by XRP.? Anyone recognize them? they come with female fittings on both ends. I think I might go with a 8ft an-4 line from this guy and order my gauges. That is if someone has heard of this XRP company. Thanks for the 1/4 npt info on the block. Would I need a female to a male end to hook to that block piece? THX
