I have been running the plastic line to my manual oil pres. guage on the a-pillar for 4 yrs or so. I put copper in there originally, but took it out because I had an issue with the autogage crap I put in there. My Dad told me they always had trouble with the copper lines because vibration caused cracks in it over time.
You can encase the plastic line in vacuum tubing. I have not done this, but heard of it and it sounds good. A short piece of larger rubber line inside the car at the guage and some cable ties or carefully used clamps could go a long way towards preventing leaks in the car. It should run down hill and through the firewall if designed correctly. Use some silicone sealant and some imagination.
