i think my oil pump is clogged with dirt.my pony is burning a lot of oil(white smoke from mufflers)the oil gauge needle goes up and down.i fill with oil and within 4-5 days it's gone again.right now i have NO oil in oil pan...WHY?can some help?i'm hoping it's just the oil pump or filter to replace...how can i get to the oil pump without taking my car to a mechanic?thanks a lot guys!:SNSign:

It isn't the oil pump. It's either leaking out all that oil, or burning it. If it's leaking, there should be a big pool of oil in your drive. You'll need to find the source of the leak and re-gasket or whatever. On the other hand, if it's burning it, the motor needs to be completely rebuilt.

BTW, white "smoke" from the exhaust = steam, i.e. water. You sure it's not blue smoke?

That's not necessarily true if the rings are fine, but you're losing oil through the valve seals. It's definitely not the oil pump. I'm still wondering the same, whether it was blue smoke (oil) or white smoke (coolant)?

White smoke is coolant...blue smoke is oil, could be a combination of buring, leaking. A clogged pump will not lead 'loosing' oil...it's leaving the engine either through the cylinders or leak.

DMAN nailed it. White smoke would indicate a blown head gasket. As for all your oil being gone in 4-5 days you must have a serious leak. Get the car up on jack stands and have a look under it. Fire it up and look while it is running. Of course when doing so take all safety percations so as not to hurt yourself.

sorry,i was gone all day guys.ok.1.no pool of oil in driveway.2.i've left car running and gone under car.,and no visible leaks.3.the smoke that i see when i step on the throttle looks like whiteish smoke.a loud clicking noise comes about also, can hear it coming from intake manifold or somewhere in that area.when i installed my cobra upper/lower after scraping all the gasket rtv some little pieces of that sh** went thru the port holes.could that be why the oil pump could get plugged.i only have a little over 80 grand(miles) on the car.thanks guys

if the pump was pluged you'd have NO oil pressure at all or very very litte at all times...the fact you're going through over 3 quarts of oil is a GOOD indication that the oil is being burned if you have no leaks. The white smoke (to me) inidcated coolant is getting into the cylinders...my guess would be bad seal from the cobra intake install....that and the oil use (to the degree you're using) I have no good news for the motor at all.

how can i fix the problem?how would i know if coolant is getting into my cylinders?

should i take the cobra intake out and do it all over again?does anyone have a detailed instruction sheet on how to properly install a cobra intake?oh yeah,is my sh** fixable without having to rebuild my motor?can the oil burning problem be in the heads?thanks guys!

Did you install the baffle under the lower intake, It is a very large baffle. If you have the small one you need the large one. That is more than likely where all your oil is going through your PCV. Check it, pull the PCV hose from the upper off, is oil pouring out of there? If it is let us know, there are a couple of solutions if you dont want to take your intake back off. Otherwise: Take the intake back off and start over very very slowly installing a large baffle.

are you taking about the tubes that are under the intake in the rear?

Here is what you do:

1. Start her up and let her idle for like 3 minutes get in and revv it up a few times. Let it idle like 3-5 more minutes. Or better yet take it for a drive 5-10 miles.

2. Park the car, shut it off.

3. Behind the upper intake on the driver side you will see a vaccum line going to the back corner of the upper. Pull that off and see how much oil is leaking out of there.

Let us know.

Hey process of elminiation!

Your oil concumption is either blowing by the piston rings or the valves. I would do a compression test for starters. You can pick up a compression guage from any auto parts store or you can even get them at Walmart and Meijers also. They are like 25-35.00. Drive the car and get it good and warm. Then pull all your spark plugs out and disconnect your wireharness to the coil( unplug the coil). Screw the hose that comes with the guage into one of your sparkplug holes and have someone crank the car with the throttle wide open. The guage will move and eventually stop. Write that # down with that particular cylinder you just tested. unscrew the hose and put a squirt or two of oil in to the spark plug hole and test it again write that # down and do the same for every cylinder. I f the compression increases after you add the oil to the cylinder the piston rings are more than likely trashed. If it doesnt increase significantly then its probably leaking past the valves which would indicate bent valve or bad valve seats. If you have two adjacent cylinders that have equally low compression (for EX. Cylinder 1&5 or 2&6 ETC) thats a pretty good bet you have a blown head gasket. Your #'s should be all within 10% of one another. Does your oil look like chocolate milk?

Could be, but sounds to me like his problem started right after the intake install:shrug:

the problem did start after the intake install.i added new oil new filter.i was using 20-50 quakerstate and i asked my wife to stop by and bring me oil and the store people gave her 10-40w...so i poured the oil in without noticing the weight of oil.i drove out to rosarito, mexico(bout 20-25 min. away)thats when the clicking noise came into play.
