Hey Stangnet, sorry for posting so much, but when I get a problem, I like to get the answer, the right answer.

So I am leaking oil somewhere on the drivers side of my bay... When i get into it at high rpms, and shift to the next gear, i seem to get a cloud of smoke behind me, oil burning smoke. There is no smoke whatsoever coming out of the exhaust.

Why is this doing it? i replaced the valve cover gaskets, changed the PCV valve, grommet, and filter. cleaned the PCV hose to the intake.

Today someone said that it could be my oil dipstick, that if it was bent the wrong way.

Is it pushing the dipstick out of the tube under high rpm, this could mean excessive crank case pressure. Otherwise check the valve cover, they tend to loosen up overtime

make sure the throttle body to oil filler neck hose is connected. had that problem and my dipstick was indeed being pushed out as Rick suggests, and oil was spraying out and causing all kinda of smoke and oily smell.

It's hitting headers for sure... I'm pretty sure it's coming out of the dipstick. The car is an 86 so it has flat topped pistons with no pressure relief. Now what to do to get it to stop?

I'm thinkin' he meant "no valve reliefs." (for whatever reason)
he already said he changed the PCV valve, grommet, and filter.

It has a brand new pcv valve on it.... The breather at the top of the pcv valve is capped off.

Which valve covers are you using? I had the old "Powered by Ford" ones from a mid-80's Mustang on my Ranger back in the day. Nice covers, but really fragile. Overtighten those gaskets and you'll break them. Couldn't find my leak until one day I saw a fresh trickle of oil coming out from around the valve cover bolt. Sure enough...cracked one. I'd pull them off and check the covers themselves over for cracks. Those FelPro gaskets are reusable anyway.

On the PCV valve there is two stems, one is a breather, and the other is to the intake. A guy I talked to capped of the breather with the cap that came with it because he said all it was, was a vaccuum leak.
