You will have to remove pretty much everything from the front of the motor. You will need a balancer puller and will have to remove the water pump and timing cover. You should get a Haynes or Chilton manual at the very least and read the proceedure for timing chain inspection. If you have never done this job before, allow all day to do it and take you time. Read the proceedure several times before picking up a wrench. Inspect the timing chain while you are there.
I have a plan for when I am lazy and dont want to take the time to do it right. My redneck dad taugh me this and it does work well. Clean the area that is leaking really well with some brake cleaner and a stiff brush. Wipe it dry and run a bead of black RTV sealant across the seams. Keep the bead small and then use you finger to push it into the seam. Let it sit for at least 12 hrs before you start it up. Like I said, its not the right way but it has been proven to me time and time again that it works. A shop will prolly charge you 200-300 bucks to fix that.
