I just went though the oil pan gasket replacement nightmare, last week.
If you have never replaced the oil pan and only basic tools, do you yourself a favor, take it to a mechanic! Yes... Spend the money!
I figure that there's a 1 in 10 chance you can do it without pulling the pan. It's hard enough not to get any of the old gasket in the pan, when you scrape it off. If you try to slide in the new gasket without taking the oil pan off, you will soon realize that method is futile. You will end up ripping the gasket.
You can probably get away with unbolting the engine mounts and using a jack to lift it but even that's not good enough, if you want to remove the pan, use a engine hoist to lift the engine is the best way.
