Ok this is pertaining from the fact that I cant get onto the freeway, Without losing so much oil pressure that I start to ping and cant accellerate fast at all. Mostly from 2nd gear in about 2200rpm to about 3000rpm I have to get on the freeway like a granny, and its not cool when you cant get on it while trying to outrun a few rigs. But it happens alot in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th while under load. And 5th and whatnot its still a little irratic cruising at 2000rpm.

So what do you guys think this could be. I was thinking either Rings, or some other CRITICAL bearing. Maybe this could be the cause of my #6 always turning black. So hit me guys with what you think could be causing this crap.

Thanks
Daniel

Ahh yes this is on my 87 LX. Ill run a few codes. Maybe ill get something.

easy Daniel, i might have missed something but it sounds like an engine management or ancillary problem.

how is the car the rest of the time? what troublecodes are you getting (saw that you are gonna pull them)? stock or aftermarket OP gauge? the oil level is right on?

if you have a FP gauge, i would hook it up and see what gives. a lack of fuel can cause pinging and lack of performance (and please give more OP info so we can tie that all together).

good luck.

Sounds like a timing/fuel issue like HISSIN50 was saying, if it happens exclusively under load; doesn't sound like it's related to oil pressure unless you see the OP needle drop to 0-10 when you romp on the gas, in which case the "pinging" you hear is your lifters singin' the "I ain't got oil" blues.

tahts exactly what happens
I get on the gas and my guage just DROPS to 0 or below. Im getting plenty of fuel as I can smell it. (surely a prob with compression that i KNOW i have. But could this associate withmy oil pressure drop as well?

also, if one has excessive blowby and low compression, that can lead to pinging and lackluster performance (need more info from you on what your compression numbers are, etc, as you have a preconcieved idea of what it is, but we dont have that info that you do). :)

good luck.

and to answer the previos question. Yes when my Oil Pressure drops down like Im saying it is... I smoke like a mother. Just a puff. Only when my oil pressure drops drastically do I get any smoke. Other than that its a really choppy uneven power ride. its all stock so Nothing other than the MSD 6A and TFI coil installed

well I know im slackin on getting codes and whatnot, But i havent had my 87 for a while. My mom has it while I got her car smogged and good to go ... She passed the So Cal sniffer better than our new Saturn, So tommorow the H-Pipe goes back on... hehe but yes Codes and Compression numbers coming soon

ok fellas. I finally was able to pull codes from my car. Still awaiting some compression tests though... but it seems like most my problem drivability wise is the EGR system. And I mean the EGR system, here are the codes :

94r - air diverter solenoid circuit fault
44r - thermactor air system fault
33r - EGR valve not opening properly
40 - ???? who knows, its not in my book.

So whatya guys think, this still doesnt show anything about my oil pressure dropping. I will take a short 20sec clip of me getting on the freeway so that you guys can see just what im talking about... how does that sound?

i did not re-read all this, so i am probably way off base, but how does this sound:

do you or did you put a real oil pressure gauge in the car? the pinging might be unrelated, depending upon how your EGR is malfunctioning and how hard you get onto it on the freeway. if the computer thinks it is an EGR opportunity, but EGR gasses are not being introduced, that can lead to pinging. conversely, if EGR is being introduced when it should not be, that can lead to horrible performance.

point im tryin to make is that it might be two different issues, so i would treat it as such. a real OP gauge would be far and away first on my list of stuff to do. even a cheap 10 dollar one from the parts store is way better than the stocker.

good luck.
