Oil pressure sending unit - is there more than one place on the block to put it?

Greetings,
I saw a picture in the latest Mustang Monthy in an article about classic Mustang clutches that made me scratch my head. They took a picture of the equalizer bar on the left side of the engine bay and in the picture there was, what apeared to be, an oil pressure sending unit screwed into the block near the back two exhaust tubes.

What the heck was that thing?

Is there another place to put an oil pressure sending unit on a 302 block (that will read accurate pressure)? I ask because I am adding a Shelby type gauge in my center console and want to keep my original gauge in the cluster functional. It would be nice to avoid adding a 'T' fitting at the end of the stock sending unit extension above the oil filter.

The front pressure port is the only one on a 289/302. What's wrong with a "T" fitting?

I used a "T" fitting to do exactly the same thing on my 302. All my gages, stock and aftermarket are functional.

There's nothing wrong with using a 'T' fitting... I was just curious after seeing the picture in M.M.
They must have taken a picture of something other than a 289/302.

The Clevelands had two pressure ports. Ditto on the 351M & 400. Might be what you saw.

I have a 351 C, I'm having trouble getting my light out. I have the oil pressure gauge and the idiot lite. Where is the other oil pressure port, the one I'm using is on top of the engine at the rear on the block.

From the picture in the February issue of Mustang Monthly (the clutch article), it looks like the port they are using is pretty much right between the exhaust ports on cylinders number 7 and 8 (rear two on drivers side).

The other port is behind the P/S pump, right above the oil filter. It's a 3/8" allen plug.

Then it's not a Ford Motor they're showing, unless maybe a "Y" block (292/312) There's no such port on any of the modern Ford pushrod V8's.

What about the water temp port, I haven't gotten that far yet but really don't know where it is.

That is the other oil gallery port on a Cleveland. Coolant port is in front near the T-Stat housing.

Now I really wonder what I am seeing in February's Mustang Monthly... Does anybody else have that magazine? The picture is stradling pages 74 and 75... The engine has red plug wires. What is that sensor sticking out of the block?

Yes, I see what you're talking about. It's an article on clutches, so there's no reference to anything about the motor. It looks like an oil pressure sending unit to me, but it is in the location of where my Pontiac motor had the temp sensor?!?!

I'm not familiar with any of the other Ford blocks, but as stated earlier, It's not a 289/302 SBF.

200ci six cylinder. My 65 Falcon had the pressure sensor mounted there.
