i have the sending unit that is short and stubby, 1 1/16 is just too small and 1 1/8 is way too big. i cannot get to it with pliers. and i need a thinwall socket to get it off. it is not the log because i don't have the log. i want to get this off without taking the timing cover off because it is in the way to use pliers.

the oil pres unit usually takes a 9/16. the only thing i can think of on the motor that takes that size is the heater tube to the lower intake. did you or someone just put the unit into the block it self? you have a pic of what you are trying to remove?

this motor came from a wrecked car and this was with it. it is the oil pressure unit for sure. above the oil filter. it looks like a 12 point or something and is big.

Sounds like the small plastic topped unit that are found on most FORD trucks. I find a pair of pliers or a channel locks works best, it is tight to get to but can be done.
