Oil pressusre

What should my oil pressure be at when idling. Reason I ask is its usually a solid 40-45 psi, but today idling down my driveway it went down to around 32 psi. I just changed my oil yesterday too(burns alittle oil also). Any ideas?

Did you change viscosities? is the level good?
Cold PSI at idle is ~50 and warm idle is 25+.

Good luck.

Rule of thumb is 10psi per 1,000 rpm is safe, so theoretically if you're idling at 900 with 12psi you've got nothing to worry about. Technically. The higher your mileage, the more normal this ratio is. If you're under 100K (and the engine hasn't been hammered) and it's this low, it may imply something is getting pooped prematurely somewhere.

Also I find when it's REALLY hot out I find my pressure is down a bit from normal..and if idle is lower than normal pressure will also be down a tad. Most guys would fall over with joy having 30+psi warm idle. Don't give it a second thought.

My car used to have less than 10 psi at idle when it was warm, come to find out the dumb ***** that put my oil pickup in didn't put a gasket on it. The pump was sucking air into the system. Anway, with my new oil pump, i have about 35 psi minimum w/ a hot engine, and at about 3000 rpm, its about 60 psi.
