Quick question: Does the oil sending unit screw directly into the block, or must I use the sending unit tube as well? I have one currently on my '66 Mustang coupe with 302, but it has an opening for a guage to mount & I don't have the gage causing it to leak because I can't find a correct small bolt to plug it with. So, I'd prefer to just bolt up the sending unit to the block & eliminate the sending unit tube. My auto parts store doesn't carry the sending unit tube... Any information about this? Thanks!

Don't use a bolt, it'll just mess up the threads.

I believe it's a 1/4 NPT and no you don't need to use the extension.

Go to homestore plumbing section and look for brass fittings tha suits your needs. You could use a male 1/4" x 3" nipple and a 1/4" female coupler. You might also need a 1/4 -1/8" adapter depending on the sending unit size.
