Oil separator review...

No brace...I bought a 95 Cobra to try and that hit wouldn't clear my CAI or some chit...I would have to cannabilize the stock and a Cobra or another....The brace covered alot of the upper to...I did to much damn work painting the upper to hide it behind the brace..so I said....lose it.

i'm sure you already know this, but they make chrome braces too. the steeda one doesn't cover up the intake, at least not the trick flow street heat.

i didn't have one on mine for a long time, and i was amazed at how much better the car rides with it than without ...

Finally got the network up and running again...Snapped a few pics...

Here's 150 miles worth of oil that didn't get into the upper...Almost 1/2" in 150 miles...I'd say it was woofing its share....

RIO5.0, What did you use for a bracket? Or did you just make one?

just a heads up, you can build your own for about half of what it would cost to buy one. the only thing that is not listed in the parts list is a bracket.
i found this in a 2nd generation lighting forum on svtperformance.com. and of course the length of the hoses will be different from a Lightning to a Stang. so expect some tweaking.

No problem here...Thats what makes these forums great...Someone finding a better deal or way, enter cheaper here, way of doing things...

The bracket is nothing more then taking a pc of 1/8" or less Alum or whatever bends for you, and putting a 90 deg angle in it...a pc approx 3" long x 1 1/4" wide would do, or the distance between your filter mounting holes and a 1/2" wider... Top portion would be 1 1/4" or so ....Drill (2) 3/16 dia holes to mount the filter(my filter had 2 threaded mounting holes in the top....Drill (2) 3/16 dia holes to mount the bracket to wherever you choose...Very simple affair...
mounting it like mine was easy.....pull a handful of 7mm hex screws out of the wiper motor cover(the pc mines mounted to)....remove (3) plastic push screws out of the wiper cowl(these are in a channel where the 2 pcs meet)...now the two will separate...gravy disassy job....pull the cover forward to drill/mount your bracket with screws...button it back up...run the hoses....done deal...

Stopping oil for being sucked into the intake manifold, heads and combustion chambers. All of which create carbon build up, which suxors royally.

That is what many folks do. I have a CH air/oil separator and 1/4" NPT: 3/8" barbed fittings.

Looks like I missed this thread completely, but I think I need one now. When I pull the PCV hose off the lower intake when removing the intake, oil will seriously be dripping out of the hose. It's a new PCV valve too, I replaced it last november when doing my intake swap. Looks like I'll be making a trip to walmart though, I don't wanna spend freaking $70 on it.

I just did mine yesterday (another pat on Andy's back for providing inspiration to finally install the thing).
I used 300 PSI hydraulic line to and from the separator. It is a little stiff though (I am worried it will pop the PCV out of the grommet - I dont RTV PCV's in). 3/8" fuel/emissions line might work better for folks (I am pretty sure I am the only one using hydraulic line, but just in case).

Finally got er done... Took me awhile to....Tell me if you see a dif in your gas milage....
Mines up hovering around 19-20 MPG and I still got and 1/8 of a tank to go, thats this week in the 90's with the AC on a few times..... I did nothing to the car other than add this thing...I would have never thought woofing oil would affect my milage??? but something has changed for the better as it was pissing me off woofing gas like it was....I was getting like 12 MPG or so before...

I will let you know about the milage. Wow, I remember 90* temps. Last time our high was in the 90's was over one month ago.

I know oil messes with the effective octane rating of the mixture, but I too would not have expected an increase (wait, I just re-read. Your milage went up by 50%-60%?!! WOW!).

Forget whatever razzing anyone gave you (which I did not agree with) about the part you used - in a couple tanks you will have paid for that nice separator!

Should be, but you need to be careful, b/c the Campbell Hausfeld ones have a warning on it not to use with synthetic oils. Im wondering if a synthetic blend would be ok.

Andy I'm still on my first tank of gas with it in 100* weather so I'll keep everyone posted. I changed my PCV filter, valve, and grommet 2 days after I installed the seperator as I noticed no oil was being seperated. After I did that oil started to appear. Perhaps my PCV wasn't working at all because of the clogged filter. BTW, I'm at around 13-14 mpg (guesstimated) so I'd like to see an increase as well.

Interesting. See now Andy's separator will be the only one that does not fall apart with synthetic.
