i've searched the forums and found a few possible answers to this question but wanted to repost to see if there was anything new. about 3 weeks ago i started noticing a burnt oil smell when i got on the motor pretty hard, it then would go away. I've got 47k on the motor and can't find any leaks and nothing smokes. I think it may be a pcv, but would a new one fix the problem? it seems to be coming from the middle of the car also. thanks for any help!

Take your pcv out and shake it. If it rattles freely then it's probably good ...

They are cheap to replace (but get a Motorcraft one).
