Oil Temp too High?

I just got my car running after installing my supercharger. I took it out for a ride to see if everything is ok. I was sitting in traffic and it was like 95 out side. The oil temp got up to almost 260. Is this some thing that i should be worried about? The blower (Vortech SQ) got very hot too. I burnt my hand when I touched it. I know they get hot but will it get hot so hot that it burns your hand? Should i invest in a oil cooler? If so witch one should I use? Thanks for the help!

the blower will get pretty hot but that sound a little too hot. you did plumb the oil feed line in correctly right? did you put back the 1 gallon of coolant you had to drain for the install? when was the last time you had your coolant system drained and flushed? and whose tune are you running? did you hear any detonation while you were out driving? all these things are very important things for us to know in order to help you.

I changed my oil today. I check that the blower was getting oil and it was. When I drain the coolant I put what I drained back in. I bought the car about a 1 1/2 years ago so i am not sure when it was flushed, the coolant looked good and the car has only 40,000 miles on it. The car is not tuned yet but when I drove it i never took it above 3,000 and made sure that I was always pulling Vacum. I took it out today and the oil never got above 245. I am also not sure how good the gauge is, it is the one that Saleen puts in the N/A S281 (Electric). The blower is still hot as hell, i dont know if it has anything to do with it but I am running a 3.2" pulley with a front mount intercooler. So I am sure if spinning the blower faster is causing more heat. I am getting it tuned at JLP next week so I will see what johnny says. I am trying for 435rwhp! I will keep you posted and thank you for the help!

are you kidding me? theres you problem. your driving the car un-tuned:nono:. dont drive it anymore without a supercharger base tune at least and dont get into any boost or you can kiss your engine goodbye. the blower will only create so much heat. it wont go over around 190. even though you kept it in vacume your still probably running lean witch is causing your under hood temps to go up.

How can I run the car lean if I am not making boost? I took it for a quick ride around the block too get it up to temp to see if every thing is ok I am not beeting on it. I have a Vortech mini race bypass valve. It vents off any extra air the the blower is making when you are pulling Vacume. The coolant temp is fine and the car is not pinging at all.

your computer is probably getting ready to throw codes soon too. did you have a saleen supercharger on it before the vortech? what injectors are you running? did you get bigger ones? everything is way off on your car right now because the ecu has no idea what is going on. its probably running test after test on the sensors. DONT drive your car again without a base supercharger tune.

No it did not have a saleen blower the car was N/A. I had the 42lbs injectors in the car but it was loading up with so much fuel. I talked to Johnny at jlp he said he can not send me a base line tune because the computer has been reflashed by saleen and needs to be sure that he has the right template for the computer so he has to have the car there. He said that i would be fine with the stock injectors as long as I stayed out of the boost to get the car to his shop. I have had the car running for about an hour drive/idiling and no CEL.
The idiles great. Do you really think the car is running that lean just driving around not getting into the boost? Should I have the car towed there? Has anyone esle had this problem? Thanks for your help!

yes even though the blower isnt really doing much at low rpms its still helping it breath. its probably running a little lean. your engine might be able to compensate enough to keep it from running lean but iam not sure. if you have the stock injectors on there it will run ok but dont push it at all. if possible have the car towed there rather then dirve it. its up to you but i wouldnt take that chance. most shops wont send you a base tune anyway because they are worried you will not come in for the dyno tune and smoke your engine. do you have wideband on the car? the under hood temps are going to be higher then when you were n/a so keep that in mind. even with light driving the blower is gona be hot. this is why i push sniper tunings special forces software because it would have created a base supercharger tune for you and would have made you car safe to drive it would have just not been running perfectly but it deffinetly wouldnt be lean.

I installed the wideband Air/fuel Gauge. I took it for a quick ride again, when I drove it the a/f was between 14 to 15. That was was pulling vacume all the time and shifting before 3000. The oil temp is saying right around 245. So I think that I should be ok to drive it to my tuner. I am still going to get a oil cooler. Ford racing sell a nice kit for $130.

I don't knoew why you oil temps are so high, but its probably because the hunder hood temps are higher now. According to your a/f guage you are running perfect while in vacum. 14.5-15.4 is normal at cruise. I tuned my wifes GT to run at 15.7 at cruise for better gas mileage.

I agree with the above statement about Sniper. It is the best tuner out ther for the money. I am using it on my built 04 gt and my wifes lightly modded 01 gt. You can tune for a supercharger without ever having to go to a dyno.
