ok got a question on car paint

its been buggin me for a while and i was recently talkin with one of my friends and idk what to believe

i have swirls in my paint..swirls of wax...like a crapload of dark areas where the wax was applied and ****

this happened the last time i waxed the car

now i know how to wax a car which is really makin me crazy over this whole thing

i use my hand..i dont use an orbital buffer..my friend said that would make it worse..but isnt that counter intuitive?

i could try the dawn trick and rewax it but i tried that on my bumper for another purpose and the smudges were still there

should i get my hands on an orbital buffer? what do u guys think the appropriate method should be?

Get a Porter Cable 7424, or 7336. It's got a large 8mm throw, 6,000 rpm motor, and 5-6" pads. Most of the time, it will come with a few pads, too. The best out there. You can't do the same stuff with some crappy waxer, or random orbital sander. This is made to be maneuverable, without messing up your paint (unless you try).

Step 1. Wash car thoroughly with Dawn.

Step 2. Clay bar car, using Dawn as lube for clay.

Step 3, the important one. Put the yellow pad on the PC, and get some Optimum Hyper Compound, using only maybe a dime's drop worth per panel; work it with the PC at speed 4 or 5. It may cause some hazing, but that's because it is cutting pretty deep. Make sure you are working the compound long enough for the abrasives in it to break down. That should help eliminate some hazing. Afterwards I would recommend Optimum Polish on an Orange Pad to clear up the hazing. If the hazing is too much, you can try applying an X of the compound across the pad, and another x of polish the other way across the pad.

Step 4. Another round of just Optimum Polish, or whatever polish of your choice, on a less abrasive pad, aka gray or green, at speed 3.

Step 5. SEAL IT! I love Poorboy's World products, and I use Poorboy's EX-P sealant.

Step 6. Wax it. Lighter colors look good with synthetic waxes, darker look better with a Carnauba wax. I use Poorboy's Natty's Blue paste wax on my true blue. I always wax by hand.


I know it seems like alot, but the results will shock you, if it's all done correctly. Once you get it nice, it's easy to maintain it. I only do a Dawn wash/claying once a month now, unless something jacked up happens to my car. Good luck!

yea those porter cables are pretty expensive..dont got a lot of cash to throw out right now on them..i can get one closer towards the summer time but not now..hopefully theres something else that can be used as an alternative?

how about just trying to wax it again? lol

A buffer certainly helps when cutting/buffing but a decent job can be done by hand also. Depending on what it looks like, you will need different products ... know what I'm sayin?
