ok guys would you change out the plastic intake?

I have a plastic intake on my car and my list of mods is change the old one and get the updated one..Mine isnt cracked dosent leak should i change it out?

I'm for sticking with it and spending your money on something else.. you can always replace it when it does go out.

My motto is "dont replace it until it's broke..... then upgrade it "

I would not mess with it at all... A lot of problems can occur when changing the thermostat...

I recently went to switch my thermostat back to the stock one from a 180. The 180 kept the hot coolant circulating which would make my car damn near explode if I sat at idle, like at a drive through window. Anyway, I broke one of the bolts off in the head and had to take the intake off to drill out the bolt, re-thread the hole, .... If it ain't broke ... leave it alone

I'd pass on that Ghost Rider...don't fix unless you have too. I swapped my thermostat and ended up cracking the intake soon after. The 180 won't do you too much anyway. Same with the intake. If it anit broke don't fix it.

I have a 102K mile '97 GT with the original plastic intake - I did a ton of research here about changing it out, and wrestled with the decision for some time. My inherent nature is to pre-emptively head things off before they become a problem. I'm almost certain that it will eventually crack at the absolute least convenient moment for me, as I drive the car daily. Thats just the way my luck goes. But I'm inclined to agree with everybody else - I'm not going to replace it till I have to. Heck - I might even get lucky and it'll never crack. I really would not want to do anything to, on or around the intake that may hasten the process, so I think I'd pass on the 180 t-stat, myself.

It's different in your case. You have the crappy flowing old intake. It would be an improvement in performance to swap out yours...just like gears or exhaust. Even though I waited until mine cracked the PI gave me 2 tenths at the track. Anyone with a 96-98 car could benefit from the PI intake or something better.

But swapping the plastic PI to the aluminum crossovered one on a 99+ car wouldn't net a gain in performance so just hang onto it until it pops...if ever. Unless of course you want one of those intakes that just happen to have a pulley and belt attached.

If you find a great buy on one, get it and hang onto it. Install it when you have to.

Yeah, I'd do that if your coolant is brown. And if you do decide to replace the thermostat, just be stupid careful when loosening the bolts. If they feel like they won't break loose, STOP. If they break loose relatively easily then you should be ok, just clean the crap out of the threads and use neverseez so that the bolts will be easy to remove from that point on. It's just that the threads get coolant and gunk in them and seize the threads (at least that is what ONE of my bolts did, but I also was not being gentle by any means). Those bolts are long and crappy, also cost F'ing 18 bucks each (from Ford) ...

Oh yea, when you flush the system, be sure you bleed it properly as previously mentioned or you will be making a new thread.
