Here's the "point" Joe.
@jrichker
You can personally give away every schematic you own, and offer assistance on every aspect within your vast field of experience w/ gigantic tech white pages if you chose to do so. It is certainly appreciated.
Everybody here does what they can to help each other out w/o asking anything in return in somewhat the same way.
Before you go off on a tangent thinking that this thread is the individual asking, or thinking they need something more for their assistance, you need to step off that box.
Because you'd be wrong.
This is
me thinking that he can profit from his knowledge as so many others
already do. He has already proven himself more than willing to help for free,...asking nothing in return. I personally know of more than one Sunday in where he spent multiple hours on the phone w/ a client laptop tied in to the server trying to solve somebodies issues....including me.
Like knowing and being able to troubleshoot a 12v electrical system as you do, successfully solving a stand alone ECU tuning issue is something that 95% of the contingency here sees as black magic. W/O you personally, I'd be more than stuck w/ a nut that may fall off in my engine, magnets that would have heat fatigued by now, and drilled a hole that walked all over the place. That kinda advice I appreciate greatly,...but it isn't what I'm talking about.
This may be more of an example:
You offer to help me troubleshoot a circuit. Live.
I've got a really good camera that I can set up to be your eyes on a live stream,..and strap it to my head. You get on the phone, and through trial and error spend three hours on a Sunday helping me solve it.
I thank you,...and ask you what I can pay you for your help. You refuse anything stating that that's what friends do for each other.
Then two weeks later I need something else.
Then a few days later a completely different individual needs the same 3 hour session.
Then a tweak.
Then somebody else needs the three hour thing...
How long before you do the "Sorry,..I have a life thing" Joe?
People here are probably 70/30 DIYers depending on what it is the're doing. Most will do the stuff that involves turning a wrench,....but only a few will mess w/ the black magic because they have to or think they can.
Then they run into a wall, and need help. They are left w/ hoping you or somebody like you can solve the problem, or they have their junk towed and they pay shop labor rates or more to get it fixed by a different expert.
So then.....if you or the "other guy" I'm talking about come on here and throw me a bone to help me solve a one liner issue I post up. Thanks...I hope to be able to return the favor someday.
But after you've spent the 3rd of three 3 hr sessions.......and you're finally at the end of that 9th free hour on a Sunday,....Maybe you'd be better able to justify the "help" if you were able to explain to your wife that wanted to go to Costco that you were making the necessary monies to be able to buy some of the junk that you won't need that'll end up in that basket.
I'm not saying you need to start up a business much in the same way I'm not with the other...I'm saying to the "Clients" that the "Server" has a life,..and to be considerate of that when they reach out to him and ask for help.
